We went to the District Six Museum and had no idea how much the visit would educate us and touch us. We walked in and opted to pay a little more and take a tour with a docent. What's amazing is that the docents are actual people who lived in District Six and whose lives were truly impacted by the apartheid. Our docent was wonderful and her stories were so raw that I couldn't contain my emotions. It was a great place to spend the afternoon, and we learned truly learned so much about the history of apartheid and how it has continued to affect South Africans today. I strongly suggest that you spend the very little extra money and take a tour with the docent, it's an experience that you will never forget. I highly recommend this museum to be a place you visit while you are in Cape Town.
