we visited Jessica because a hotel employee mentioned herl. We did not consult a website before going there. We were very disappointed by the location and the unfriendliness of the host, who had an imperative attitude. This is a money-making project, and has nothing to do with care for animals. The hippo's are used to make money. We were not aware of an entrance fee, it was not mentioned upon arrival. we thought it was all about the taking care of a poor hippo. R150 per person is not nothing, we had to pay cash as there was no internet conncetion. It smells.
Go see the hippo's in the Kruger park!
This was a truly unique experience and made my heart sing. It’s a must do activity and suitable for families with children and couples.
Thanks for your kindness .
We were a group of 3 that really enjoy our afternoon at Jessica.
The show and interaction was real cool and nor forced. The owner was kind and answered all our question. Really great experience.
Thanks
Dave
We visited S. Africa in September 2022 which is right after the fire season and a little before the bugs come out. Going to see Jessica while we were there was an amazing experience. The experience of feeding and touching a hippo is quite surreal.
There's actually 2 hippos that are friendly, but be forewarned it's possible you might not be able to interact with either of them. They are wild and are not demanded to do anything but be a hippo.
The story of the owner's former life and how he came to be the "caretaker" of the magnificent beasts is a story worth visiting for in and of itself.
Fantastic and emotional….. really appreciate the bond and absolutely no cruelty as she is free to roam if she so chooses
