Clean room with a sunrise view on the balcony

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Sept 2019via mobile
My husband and I went to Yap for a diving trip during MantaFest at the beginning of September. We stayed at ESA Bay View hotel for 8 nights.

Pros: They provided free airport pickup and drop off. The staff at the front desk was very helpful. Our room is at Rm 305 with a beautiful view of Chamorro bay and sunrise In the morning. Room was cleaned every day. They let us borrow the hotel towels from room for boat dives every day. The room has a fridge but no microwave. I like the balcony because we could hang our wetsuits there on the last day before we packed them.
Convenient location, close to our dive shop and a convenient store across the street. We bought some drinking water from the store. The Yap Living Museum and Manta Ray Bay resort and restaurants are within walking distance (8-10 minutes walk)

Cons: it has in-room WiFi but speed was unreliable. There were some nights we just couldn’t open any webpage or check email.
There’s no elevator. We had to carry our luggage downstairs when we left. But our suitcases are not too heavy and we are strong divers so we didn’t have any problem carrying our luggage down. :-) we ate at the restaurant on the next night after we arrived because it was Sunday no other restaurant in town were open. Not very good value for beef broccoli ( one serving) compared to Ganir restaurant we went for five nights afterward. I like Ganir because they have bigger portions for a cheaper price for the same quality of food at ESA hotel.

All in all , we were satisfied with ESA Bay View Hotel. It served the purpose for us: which is provide a place to sleep after our dives. Comfortable bed and shower. We are simple people. It’s a simple hotel. Simple is good for us.

Some of the rooms on the water have a good view. The hotel is very basic and does not have any television programming (via satellite or cable). The internet was slow but was always available during my 8 days stay.

The restaurant serves inexpensive limited item food. However it closes at 8:00 pm or earlier making it difficult to grab dinner if you are working till late.

Booked here a few days to do some work for FSMTC. Clean rooms with a great sunrise view. Breakfast wasn’t to bad with well portions. The island is clean throughout the main roads and everywhere else.
I recommend staying here while visiting Yap, price is affordable and you get free Airport pickup and drop off.

This hotel responded immediately for my e-mail request for a booking.
It is not a fancy place, but the rooms are large enough and clean, there is a big comfortable bed (at least in the room I was in), the air conditioning works well, a fridge is provided and there is a desk and lots of power points. The bathroom is large enough and soap is provided. There is a nice view out of the windows over the bay. Laundry is available and returned the same day.
There is a restaurant; again pretty basic but sufficient. There is no bar, but if necessary a couple of hundred yards up the road is a store that sells a variety of drinks and foods.
WIFI is available everywhere but the signal is poor in Yap (not the Hotel's fault).
Overall the hotel is clean, the staff friendly and the front desk helpful.
For a relatively cheap hotel this does the job perfectly.

Room tip: There is no lift, so rooms not wheelchair accessible

    Hello Kigoma
Many thanks for your review, We are very happy you stayed with us here at ESA Bay View Hotel.
As a Family owned and operated business we take great care and pride in being helpful to our guests.
The good news on the WiFi is that Fiber Optic cables are being laid as I type, at long last Yap will soon have internet speeds in pace with the rest of the world.
We thank you again for your review and truly hope to see you again in the future.

Kind Regards from all the team at ESA Bay View Hotel.

ESA is one of those restaurants that is best at certain parts of the day. For ESA, that is generally breakfast, the prices are average and some meals are quite good. They have recently slimmed down their menu.

They have some of the best omelettes on the island, particularly the Spanish Omelette if your looking for something tasty and filling. It comes with fresh fruit and toast. The coffee is OK and comes in sets of 2 (one cup and one refill) for 1.50.
    They also have decent pancakes.

ESA has indoor seating by the lobby but where you really want to sit is outside on the porch, overlooking the bay. Its a decent place to have a casual breakfast and a nice view.

There is a single toilet in the lobby that is quite cramped but functions.

The staff is friendly but sometimes forgetful (particularly when it comes to coffee refills.) Also, its best to hold off on your refill until your cup is empty, other wise you may get a 'top up' that counts as your refill.

Some of the staff at the restaurant cash register also sell local jewelry, so you can ask them about it when you check out. The bracelets are a bit pricey but beautiful trochus shell.

I have not stayed in the hotel but I have visited their gift shop. There is not much of a selection and it is only opened when you ask for it. However, they do have some interesting postcards which are not easily found on the island. Just ask at the front desk and they will open up the shop for you.
