ESA is one of those restaurants that is best at certain parts of the day. For ESA, that is generally breakfast, the prices are average and some meals are quite good. They have recently slimmed down their menu.
They have some of the best omelettes on the island, particularly the Spanish Omelette if your looking for something tasty and filling. It comes with fresh fruit and toast. The coffee is OK and comes in sets of 2 (one cup and one refill) for 1.50.
They also have decent pancakes.
ESA has indoor seating by the lobby but where you really want to sit is outside on the porch, overlooking the bay. Its a decent place to have a casual breakfast and a nice view.
There is a single toilet in the lobby that is quite cramped but functions.
The staff is friendly but sometimes forgetful (particularly when it comes to coffee refills.) Also, its best to hold off on your refill until your cup is empty, other wise you may get a 'top up' that counts as your refill.
Some of the staff at the restaurant cash register also sell local jewelry, so you can ask them about it when you check out. The bracelets are a bit pricey but beautiful trochus shell.
I have not stayed in the hotel but I have visited their gift shop. There is not much of a selection and it is only opened when you ask for it. However, they do have some interesting postcards which are not easily found on the island. Just ask at the front desk and they will open up the shop for you.
