During our three previous stays at the Pathways (now Oceania) Hotel, we had found the restaurant to be nothing special. But this time, wow! The chef has been turned loose to “do his own thing,” with impressive results. We found ourselves thinking that if we found him cooking in our home city (where good ethnic restaurants abound), we'd definitely seek him out --- an idea not usually entertained when dining anywhere in Micronesia!
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner (as well as breakfast for hotel guests) Tuesday through Sunday. It's a casual, open-air type place and includes a well-stocked bar. The menu, written on a large, movable chalkboard, changes daily, reflecting availability of ingredients. We ate many meals there over the space of ten days and thoroughly enjoyed every one. Steamed fish and sweet and spicy octopus were among our favorites. Everything is fresh and tasty, portions are generous, presentation is beautiful, and prices are reasonable. The staff is uniformly friendly and helpful.
During our stay in Yap, we sampled a few other eateries around Colonia. None of them came close to the Oceania!
