“Structurally Beautiful But Bare Bones Amenities”

First I need to acknowledge that this was our first visit to Puerto Viejo and for those who feel at home in Viejo, you would probably love this house. It's almost directly on the beach, you hear the ocean as you sleep and you are within minutes of town. That said, this being our first visit to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, we were not prepared for the economic differences between Viejos and Quepos. Positives: location - steps from beach, visual of house ( beautiful wood floors, doors, ceiling), washer and dryer, quiet and private. Negatives: amenities are lacking (e.g., no microwave, no ice trays or ice maker, no wash cloths, towels and bed linens are fraying and towels mildewed), no hot water in kitchen to wash dishes ( also no hot water in bathroom sinks), living room furniture is not comfortable. Master bath - you must step up into a large soaking tub to shower so you are taking 2 steps up on slippery ceramic tile, then one step down to enter a shower with a plastic bottom that moves. There is nothing to grab for support - it's an accident waiting to happen. To sum it up, this is a beautiful house but not a comfortable one to relax in. If you are looking for a place to sleep and shower, close to the beach you will be very satisfied. If you are seeking a home away from home to cook, relax and entertain, this one may disappoint. Again, Puerto Viejo is a different vibe. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but don't see this as a return destination.

Thank you Mark for your honest opinion! Yes, Puerto Viejo and Quepos are not similar at all, they are very different. Puerto Viejo is a layed back vibe and is a cultural destination, if you are looking for a place with simplicity, afro-Caribbean and indigenous contact, reggae music and "just cool" vibes, it will be a great experience.
But if you are looking for luxury, big 5 star hotels, with amenities of a American style hotel chain and more to feel like you have not left your house in your home country then probably the Pacific coast will be a best destination, for example Tamarindo, Jaco, Quepos is best.
On my amenity list you can see all what the house has, I do not mention something that it does not really have. The house has hot water in the showers and bath tub, I do not find it necessary for the zincs. Microwave is something I refuse to use because of the health damage it does and will not offer that for my guests. The kitchen is very complete for cooking, it has pans and pots, coffee maker, blender, toaster, oven and a big fridge. I do not recommend to drink the tap, it is best to buy water and ice if needed. I personally do not drink the tap water because of the strong smell of chlorine which the public water of the area has.
Regarding the tub I will take your comment seriously and ad an anti slip "tape" on the ceramic tile so no one will have an accident. Thank you for letting me know this.
The towels and linen is something I buy new more or less every 3 months but sometimes they get stained very quickly with I would wish to know with what! It is difficult to find good quality in Costa Rica for a fair price. But I always try my best to offer a good quality for my guests.
The sofas in the living room are new and expensive sofas, never had a negative comment for the sofas.
In general my description of the house is accurate and sincere, as I do not like to give an impression of something which is not real.
It is good to explore the destination well on internet before visiting or even asking the person which you are in contact, to know what to expect when at the destination.
Pacific and Caribbean are very different, that is the beauty of this country, you can experience different vibes in fairly close places in Costa Rica!
What I can guarantee is that all over Costa Rica you will get a Pura Vida vibe!

“Beautiful beach front house”
Reviewed 10 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

I spent a few days with my girlfriend and we both loved the place. The house is beautiful - not what you'll call fancy or luxurious - but certainly is well above the average and was worth every penny in my opinion. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped on its majority (it lacks a microwave oven) and Sat cable and Internet was a plus.

Maythe (the owner) was really friendly and easy going.

The location of the house is certainly convenient. You have Playa Negra just a few steps from your doorstep and is only 5 minutes from Puerto Viejo. Making it quiet yet not isolated.

Definitely a place to consider if you're interested in visiting the area. Highly recommended.

“YOGA House direct next to the beach <3”
Reviewed 8 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Very nice house with 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room. All made from wood, very nice interior. Lot of space. Very nice Indoor-Hammock aswell as balcony with hammock. Also a small garden with terrace. Only 30sek from the beach and about 1,5km from the town Puerto Veijo. Supermarket and restaurants about 500m. The house comes with an alert system so its very safe. Very nice host, very helpfull and informativ. Thanks for everything, definetly recommend it!

“A wonderful house and the best hosts ever”

This is a great house near the beach, even better looking in reality than in the pics. And Maythemi and her husband are the best hosts ever. They helped us with any questions we had, gave us tips for restaurants, surfing and other activities, and even got us a stand-up paddle board for free from a friend. If you will be staying near Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
(which I definitely recommend), you cannot go wrong with staying at this house.

“Very relaxing home near the beach”
Reviewed 11 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

what a wonderful home to spend our vacation in. very well taken care of and maythemi and her parents were always available for anything we needed. maythemi booked our transportation to and from san jose which made our transfers hassle free. we walked across the road to the beach every morning and the warm caribbean sea was beautiful to play in. you can walk to town on the beach or the road and it takes about 20-30 minutes with children. the food at the restaurants in town was amazing! we would definately return to this house and thoroughly enjoyed learning about costa rica from maythemi's father. he is such a kind and helpful man.
thank you so much maythemi for sharing your home with both our families! take care, jamie and all
