Our extended family of 7 stayed at Casa Cielo for a week and we were very sad to say goodbye to Paul, Rosy, Stef, Luke and especially Junior and Bernardo. Where to start? We drove in the late afternoon from San Jose airport (2.5-hour journey) and Paul’s driving instructions were impeccable as we drove for the last hour in the dark. It would have been better to do the trip during daylight hours, but we made it. A sturdy vehicle is necessary for the last part of the trip as the road is not paved (YET!) and loaded with suspension-wrecking pot holes, large rocks and pretty good inclines. Take it slow and consider the road part of a grand adventure. Paul greeted us and had some cold beers, water, milk and juice in the fridge for us. A perfect end to a tiring day of travel.
Pictures do not do Casa Cielo justice. It is stunning with everything you need to make your stay relaxing and stress-free. Breakfasts were perfect for everyone’s tastes and you couldn’t beat the fresh fruit. Take advantage of Rosy and Paul’s meals and you can swim until your food is beautifully presented at the outdoor seating adjacent to the bar and pool. If you do choose to cook, the kitchen is very well-equipped for most vacation-friendly meals. We never turned on the TV, but it is there with a ton of movies to watch if desired. Forget a book? There are several to borrow? No problems with the wifi…though we tried to avoid staying too “connected”. The view of the Arenal and Cerro Chato volcanos from the upstairs balcony and master bedroom are particularly beautiful as the sun sets.
Bird-watching at the bird feeders in the early morning was fascinating. Our kids loved interacting with the sweet and perfectly-behaved dogs (so love Bernardo and Junior!!) We appreciated learning from Paul about his labor of love in constructing Casa Cielo and his future vision for the property.
I truly can’t stress enough how helpful Paul was for us. One morning he saw that one of our rental cars had a flat tire. Not only did he help with getting the spare on the vehicle, but he personally took the flat tire to the service station in Monterrey ahead of us to get it patched. We met him at the service station and never had to use our very poor Spanish to get assistance as Paul dealt with the details. We were able to get to our scheduled excursion safely and on time.
I am looking forward to following Casa Cielo to watch how Paul and his family continue to execute their vision for the already perfect vacation destination.
Our family of six just spent 4 amazing days at this property. Definitely need a 4x4 to get to Casa Cielo - but once you arrive you’ll be very happy. My kids spent hours in the pool, Paul arranged all of our activities, and Rosy’s cooking was incredible. She was able to make slight adjustments with our different tastes and nutrition requirements. Five Stars!!!
The 5 star reviews are all on point. Paul is great with helping you coordinate your visit and getting you where you need to go and Rosie's cooking is off the charts. Definitely a place we will stay again. We were a party of 6 - with kids ages 10, 11, 12, and 16. We all loved it and felt totally at home with Paul & Rosie and their family. There is no A/C - it is Costa Rica:) The roads are crazy bad, just go slow. As Paul says in his directions, you will think you are lost, but keep going. Great way to experience Costa Rica!
Our stay here was perfect! Paul and Rosy are exceptional hosts. They organized everything from fabulous food, adventures and directions. We loved waking up every morning to the sound of birds, view of Arenal, Paul's coffee and Rosy's world class breakfast. They truly make it a vacation of a lifetime. Junior and Bernardo (their dogs) were a great addition too! We will be back!
Beautiful spacious house with large private pool area and outdoor eating/bar area. Perfect place to congregate. Great for those of us who like to be off the beaten path. Paul and Rosy were wonderful hosts and very available if we needed anything. Breakfast was amazing and so fun to watch the exotic birds eating the leftover fruit as we ate. Paul gave us great advice on places to visit. The neighboring Leaf and Lizard resort has really nice trails to roam. This is a very special place with amazing view of the volcano.
