7 Nights is enough

The Pearl Resort – Pacific Harbour – Fiji

Lovely spacious 4-star resort, we stayed in what was called a “superior adults only - ocean view room” The room was clean and spacious and the king size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the bathroom towels were of excellent quality, thick and thirsty. We had to ask for a plug for the bathroom vanity sink and for the toilet seat to be replaced which was attended to by the maintenance team promptly as was 2 broken slats under the mattress which we noticed after the first night sleeping on a creaking bed. These things should have been picked up by housekeeping before we arrived.
The lighting system in the rooms was horrific to navigate sometimes the bathroom light went on sometimes not at all depends if the switches were off or on by the bedside.

The 2 Pools. The main pool was more suitable for children, was lovely, clean and spacious. The adults only pool was dirty which was an accumulation of sand and dirt from the beach and was clearly in need of a total repaint. From what I saw in the 13 nights we stayed was that this pool was only totally cleaned once, every other day a man with a hand net just removed leaves. It’s a lovely pool being left to deteriorate. The pool sunbeds around both pools were plenty and of
excellent quality and the mattresses were very comfortable and in kept pristine condition.

Activities needs to be ramped up, in the 13 days we did not observe much being done like beach volleyball, aqua aerobics to name a few although - on the flip side the resort was very empty which was great for us. The biggest rip off was one evening a miniature crab race was held - where 5 or so crabs were lined up in a box and for $5.00 you could place your bet. This should have been free – the winner of the painted crab received a voucher for a free mocktail and the staff member got around $20 of profit for his back pocket.

The outside of the Resort activities was grossly expensive, $85 to go on a 2-hour snorkelling trip which there and back chunked into almost an hour, $65 to go on a local village tour and $65 to go see a waterfall. The most expensive was a day trip to one of the islands around $240.00 each.

The food. As we purchased our trip from Luxury Escapes our lunches and dinners were inclusive. The food was average, breakfasts were okay however the buffet on most days was only luke warm. The omelettes were hot and lovely. After 6 days we were sick of the same things to eat at both restaurants. The rice was always gluggy and all stuck together. Surely a chef knows to wash the rice before and after cooking to ensure the rice is light and fluffy not solidified. On our last night,we went to the resort right next door called Ultiqa Fiji Palms Beach Resort and had an amazing Moroccan Lamb dish which came out sizzling on a hotplate, absolutely delicious. The Pearl Resorts chefs need to step up.

The Spa. Excellent I had 4 massages all by Liah who was just amazing and well worth asking for this lovely lady. The Manager needs to step up, grim face, no smile, no welcome - thank goodness the massage ladies were so bright and cheerful. In my opinion, I felt the manager lets this Spa place down. I did not go to the gym and never saw anyone in there, it may have been closed.

The Bar Staff. Excellent could not ask for more pleasant people they were all a total delight and nothing was too much trouble.
Special thanks to Mosesse we loved him to bits.

Would we go to The Pearl Resort again, yes but for no more than 7 nights.

Very pretty hotel, love the beautiful grounds- rooms were clean and decent, beds comfortable. We occasionally lost water from the taps for some reason, but it didn't last too long.
Pool was beautiful,we didn't use it. Beach was gorgeous walking at sunrise!
Happy hour was always a good time nightly, love the drinks menu and decent prices!
Ate at the deli a few times, food was basically average but it filled us so that's ok- who can be fussy when sitting outside with a drink in your hand, taking in the views and eating with friends?
Staff always friendly and helpful- enjoyed our stay here.

We stayed for 7 days in a Premium Ocean View room. Staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing was a bother. The food was fine...variety, tasty and well presented. Great room overlooking the pool and the beach - modern, clean.
The pool was well maintained - clean with plenty of loungers and umbrellas.
Great beach for walks and sand not coral. Beach was clean and maintained by the Resort staff.
Overall - a top holiday in a well run, friendly place.
PS. Allow 4 hours from the airport to get to the resort - 1 hour for Customs, bags etc and 2.5 to 3 hours to travel there by road. It is slower if arriving at night.

We are certified scuba divers and very experienced snorkelers. We have been exploring reefs across the world for 40 years. Yesterday we booked a rather pricey two hour snorkeling trip to a reef about 1.5km offshore from the beach at Pacific Harbour. We booked the advertised “Born Free” boat because of its wide transom and ladder for easy entry and exit of the water and its padded seats. When we arrived another appropriate vessel was booked for us that did not feature the wide platform at the stern and had to insist on going on the boat that we actually booked So WATCH that!
We did not leave until well after nine o’clock.

It was windy out there yesterday and in our boat there were approximately twenty snorkelers. The water was deep and there was a good twenty metre swim from the boat in deep water to the reef edge. After anchoring the boat captain shouted “Pool’s Open!”
That’s it . We had children and very inexperienced swimmers and snorkelers in our group and ONE!!!! guide. He was friendly and helpful but very young and he had a large group to supervise in challenging conditions.
NO briefing on the reef and what to expect as we explored. I have been out there several times before and was very surprised that we weren’t instructed to swim to the leeward side of the reef.
The young man SHOULD NOT have been given such a heavy responsibility!

We are very thankful that no one was cut by the coral as some swimmers were being swept dangerously close to the reef wall.
After struggling with the choppy surface and being accidentally kicked and bumped by other flailing swimmers we finally found ourselves inside the reef and began to enjoy the critters.
BUT!!!
The captain was signalling for us to get back on the boat!!! Our $87 TWO hour snorkelling trip was actually less than one hour in the water and the majority of that time was unpleasant.
If you are staying at the Pearl DONT choose that option unless you’re very experienced .
There are other tour options in Pacific Harbour that enable you to enter the water from the beach away from the wind and prevailing currents
BE CAREFUL

We take safety and guest satisfaction very seriously and will immediately address these issues with our team and the snorkeling operator. Your concerns about the lack of a proper briefing and the level of supervision will be raised to ensure improvements are made.

Gorgeous room with a beautiful view of the adults pool and ocean. Staff amazingly friendly and nothing is a problem. Very relaxing place and interesting cultural shows they put on for free. On our last night they put on a special lovo dinner with show and snake dance that we were all doing. Another evening was a special fire dance that they were extremely good at both the men and the women. Because of the marina right there it made it so easy to go on our fishing and snorkelling trips. The 18 days was never dull.

Attended a very well run conference here and stayed 1 night in a very modern room with King bed and large luxurious bathroom. The resort has 6 restaurants to chose from with great food and cocktails. It is on the river for convenient access to Aquatrek dive shop and boats. Lovely lush gardens with occasional sightings of mongooses.
