The fountain reminded us of Italian fountains - very nice, and you can walk around it on the Round About. Be sure to take a look at it.

Amazingly sad history for such a beautiful location. Read the signs to learn about it or grab a visitors guide with a self guided driving or walking map. This place is hauntingly serene with a history that will make you really think about how slaves were treated. Worth a stop even if just driving through

Must see! Tons of history right here! Be sure to read the metal signs-lots of information.. like this is where slaves were traded, Rosa Parks got off the bus and the telegram about the civil war was received near this! Don’t miss it!

Centerpiece of Downtown Montgomery. Lots of gentrification being done in this section of the city. Glad to see they are maintaining the historic building facades in many cases with a modern structure inside and attached behind the old beautifully designed facade.
As a bonus, there is a great coffee shop, Prevail Union located nearby. .

Its not just about the fountain! With the Alabama Capital in the distance, at first it just looks like a pleasing urban landscape. But it has history. The square was the site of slave auctions. Rosa Park boarded the bus across from the fountain and was arrested because she wouldn't give her seat up for a white man. The telegram to Fort Sumter was sent from the building just up the road. And at the far end is the capital steps where Jefferson Davis was sworn in as president of the confederacy as well as George Wallace's infamous "segregation forever" speech. My wife and I were walking off our long drive to Montgomery and headed this way. A great introduction to Montgomery's history with a number of historic markers.
