Review of Vivanta Kolkata EM Bypass
As a seasoned traveler and sailor who frequently experiences hospitality worldwide, I recently chose to stay at Vivanta for its proximity to the VFS office, as I was applying for a Schengen visa for my family. While I understand this is a second-tier Taj property, my expectations of the renowned Taj hospitality were not fully met. My review is based on my personal experience during this visit.
Bharat is known for it's hospitality and welcoming nature (Aatithya) and as Taj is a Bhartiya brand still the above qualities lacked severly
Positive Aspects:
- The property is well-maintained, clean, and tidy.
- The room was simple, clean, and relaxing.
- Room service was satisfactory.
- Biodegradable packaging was used where possible.
- The food quality was commendable.
Areas for Improvement:
- The reception staff could benefit from additional training to enhance their welcoming demeanor. During my visit, there were few staff at the reception, and their expressions were often cold.
- No introduction or information about the hotel's facilities was provided upon check-in.
- The initial provision of toiletries was minimal, and additional items were only supplied upon request the following day.
- At dining times, cutlery and napkins were not readily available at the table and had to be requested.
- During the breakfast buffet, when I requested an item to be heated, I received a blunt refusal, despite the restaurant being only half occupied.
- The selection of vegetarian desserts was limited, and one Indian dessert was not replenished even after multiple requests.
- When I requested coffee at approximately 10:40 AM, I was bluntly informed that the buffet time was over. A more polite response would have been appreciated.
While the property has its merits, I believe there is significant room for improvement in terms of staff training and service quality. I hope my feedback will be taken constructively to enhance the guest experience at Vivanta Kolkata EM Bypass.
Sincerely,
Amit
