I was taken to Wasabi for a friend's birthday and all I can say is... Wow...

We were seated at a window table, and so the view was of the Gateway, which was lovely - so nice to see the action below without having to hear it!

From the moment we entered we had a very attentive waiter (possibly a little too over attentive for our tastes) but he knew what my friend had ordered on previous occasions and so was able to remind her and guide her accordingly.

The food was very good indeed - fresh, tasty and not too much.. as sushi should be (not that I have had so much of it in my life).

We decided not to order a main course, just a salad, some sprouts and teppanyaki rice. The salad was not much to write home about - too much iceberg and not much of anything else - but the dressing was nice and the rice was good too. The sprouts were very tasty - just lightly cooked, so slightly crunchy and with that lovely nutty flavour.

Since it was my friend's birthday the Taj thoughtfully provided a cake... but oh what a disaster of a cake it was.... most definitely NOT up to Taj standards and a very disappointing end to a fabulous meal... but hey, you can't get it all right!

Visited Wasabi at The Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai this January. This restaurant is simply excellent for Sushi lovers and those looking for an authentic Japanese fine dining experience. The spicy tuna, yellow tail sushis were my favorite along with the Lobster Tepanyaki.
Helpful tip : Not easy on the pocket so do carry a credit card :)

This was a special occasion, a birthday and we booked the Tappanyaki table. We started with their signature dish of finely sliced white fish carpaccio. This was followed by a large selection of their Tappanyaki cooked at the table infront of you. It was all delicious and beautifully presented. We had a cloudy sake followed by another sake, superb. At the end of the meal, a beautiful chocolate cake appeared. Service was excellent and it was an expensive meal costing £600 for four people.
