We stayed there with two young kids and my mum in her 70s. The Landlady and her family have been very nice and helpful. The apartment is welcoming, spacious, bright, pleasant, clean and has everything we needed for a 5-day stay in the middle of the summer. Beach, old town and a mini-supermarket are in walking distance, or bus (No. 4 or 8, paying 12 - 15 Kuna per adult at Kiosk or to driver) stopping in front of the property easily took us to town and the port when the heat was too much for us to walk all the way. Not only is the City such a beautiful place, people at places and taxi/bus drivers were very helpful , friendly and spoke perfect English, making it a memorable place with atmosphere.
One note for people travelling with young kids or aged people is the city stands against hills therefore there are a lot of steps in and around the town. Of course there are always slopes that could get around the steps by walking extra distance, but using buses or taxis made my life easier. No.8 is a ciacular bus so just stay on and you will get back to the property in 30 min even if you got onto a wrong direction. Lokrum island is beautiful and only a short boat ride away but not catered for buggies. But it is small enough for my almost 3-year old to walk most of the way to Dead Sea.
I hope to go back there again when kids are older to look around further. Buses are operating reliably and looks like travelling between different coastal towns is easy with those buses.
Also it is generally very safe place, I felt safer than most of European cities I have been.
