For the price, the room is comfortable enough. Breakfast is very good (walking to best western hotel is not that far!). Location is very closed to Tambau beach, with plenty of restaurants and bars. Just a lack of personality in the room, so not for people that likes to stay all the day in their hotel.

Hotel Smart is a good hotel centrally located at Tambaú. The hotel has free wi-fi and all the usual room amenities. The staff is friendly and helpful and the price is very reasonable. The guests of Hotel Smart receive their breakfast (a good one) at the nearby Best Western Hotel Caiçara.

Good budget option

Very good value for this hotel. Location is very good, just a couple of blocks from the Tambaú beach. Room is spacious and clean, bathroom is good enough: box shower (no curtains!) -- no shampoo though. Rooms have A/C and parking is free. Breakfast is optional.

I'd say this hotel is Ibis style but 1) some steps lower than Ibis standars; 2) cheaper than Ibis; 3) better located than Ibis.

If you're looking for an honest, budget option, in a place where you can walk around at night (Tambaúi beach), I'd say this is the place.

Room Tip: Rooms in the scond floor might be quieter.

I stayed there with my wife during Carnival. Carnival week in most cities in Brazil are crowded, load music, traffic, high prices. But it doesnt happen in Joao Pessoa. So it was good for us and anyone else who wants to avoid Carnival.
The price of Smart Hotel is very good. The breakfast is served in another hotel in the corner but good (a lot of food... many tables, many people... you can eat tapioca but the women there preparing them was slow and not very well organized).
I booked my room in the last minute (one week before carnival when most hotels were full) so I ended up in a ground floor room. The room was really small and just a tiny window. At first It was suffocating but later, turning on the Air Conditioner everything was OK. White walls and very basic room. Bathroom OK and good shower. The staff is very friendly. They have a free parking lot. The beach is 3 blocks away, so it is a short walk.
Since they have no structure and the rooms are small, spend the day outside enjoying the beach and the town, and go back at night just to sleep. The bed is average (too soft and small for me). There is a small TV and a safe box.
If you rent a car during carnival, expect heavy traffic going to other beaches. One day going south, I gave up after spending 2 hours stuck in the traffic and went back the Tambau beach. Actually you dont have to go to other beaches, since Tambau and Cabo Branco are very nice places.
