Let's see: over priced? Check. Apathetic service? Check. Low quality food? Double check. Look, I'm from Pennsylvania and i've had better italian meals at Olive Garden! The risotto was woefully undercooked and the shrimp were those little salad shrimp that you find on salad (my family all had regular shrimp with their entrees). For $30, I can't believe they use salad shrimp in an entree - pathetic. Service is a pretty far cry from Italian. Maybe they should switch to Russian.

Hi Sherie! Thanks for letting us know about your visit. The risotto for your dish is served al dente. We understand this isn't everyones favorite way to prepare the risotto, but many customers do prefer it this way. As for the seafood, we price our entrees at market price. When compared to other establishments in Alexandria, you will see our entrees are reasonably priced. We can ensure you that we do not use "salad shrimp" as that would be disrespectful to all of out clientele who trust us to deliver a fine dining experience.

Roger was an amazing server and knew the menus well. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great as well.

My friend and I were in Alexandria the evening of March 27 and were attempting to have a nice dinner dining experience. Each of the five previous restaurants we visited had a wait time of 30 minutes to two hours. Upon arrival at Il Porto, we were greeted with kindness and seated immediately. Our waiter, Roger, came right over and took our order in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner. We had an excellent dining experience, thanks to Roger and his courteous and professional manner. We plan to return to Il Porto in the near future to experience their fine hospitality again. Sincerely, Dr. Brian G. Easley

We brought one of our relatives here from out of state because of the reviews online. After leaving, I don’t understand how it has such high reviews. Our service was horrible. Bread and salads came out at a reasonable time but 45 minutes after we had finished our salads we still didn’t have our food. When we asked our waiter if the food would be ready soon he said “yes I’ll be right back with it” and comes back with three more salads. After we informed him we already had our salad (45 minutes prior) he walked away and brought our food out 15 minutes later so we waiting a full hour after ordering for three pasta dishes.

I wouldn’t have chosen to write a review if the food had been on standard with the high prices but it was subpar. Salad, bread, and Calamari appetizer were good. I got the Capellini Primavera with “white wine sauce” which tasted like the frozen Bertolli pasta from a bag and there was maybe some olive oil on it but nothing close to a white wine sauce. My husband got the Pasta Primavera con Aragosta which had about one piece of lobster, a few MINI scallops, and some shrimp in a sauce that tasted like it came from a jar. My Mother in law got the Scaloppine alla Picatta which is SO THIN and not served with anything else. Just three pieces of meat on the plate. We were told the server was supposed to tell her she had the option of a salad or pasta but he didn’t and just gave her the salad without providing the option. None of us came close to finishing or even eating half of our meals which were $150 for three people. We came home and ordered pizza which we enjoyed much more than our meal here.

When we were ready to leave we had to flag a random server down to get our check. We checked the items and total and everything was as it should be so we handed the check over with our card. After waiting another 20 minutes, they came back with the check which somehow got an extra meal added onto it (the meal wasn’t there when we checked the first time) so they had to refund it and start over. We finally were able to leave after 2.5 hours because of the slow service. Don’t recommend this place unless you’re looking for Olive Garden quality Italian food at double the price.

Hi Erin! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We sincerely apologize for your visit. We have recently had new staff members join the team so it is taking some time to catch them up to speed, hence the mistakes. Regardless, this has affected you and your family members negatively and for that we apologize. The worst thing in the world is to go out to a restaurant only to be greeted to a subpar meal. We understand how frustrating this is and we apologize for disappointing you. We have let our kitchen staff know about your meal so that this does not happen again.

Perfect dinner!! Perfect table by window looking out onto King Street! Ask for Kevin!!! Awesome service!
