Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

We visited after dark and the building is beautiful all lit up. You are allowed inside, which is equally as stunning.

The free tour is definitely worth taking. The guide explained many facts about the bldg. itself and how the Texas govt works.

So after walking around this beautiful building, and reading the inscriptions on dozens of monuments, I asked my teenage Carolinian daughter, who i had dragged around for the last 90 minutes, what she thought of the Texas Capitol Building compared to the US Capitol Building, which we had recently seen.

"Well Dad, as far as i can tell everything they do in Texas, they do it bigger and better."

We learned a lot about the capitol building, which was massive. We got a guided tour, but it was so small it was nearly a private tour, and learned a lot about the history of the building and Texas.
