So disappointed by our day trip here. First got a speeding ticket at the bottom of a hill just before town then found most of the store vacant. Those open were few and uninteresting. Stopped in the historic hotel and didn't see a single person. The whole place was like a ghost town. Skip this stop.

The buildings surrounding Court Square are in fairly good condition and are reminiscent of a town 50 years ago. The courthouse is still in operation, but does not operate at the same level as originally planned. Several business were open, while others have shuttered.

Court Square in picturesque Abbeville, South Carolina is a must see. The cobblestone streets take you back to a different era.

Some small town squares just "get it" and some don't. This one definitely gets it. Immediately on driving into town we almost drown in the charm exuded by the square. Since we were staying at the Belmont Inn, we had plenty of time to explore. The square on a sunny, cool fall morning is a sight to see.
The CSA monument was stunning. I hope that it stands another several hundred years!!
Highly Recommended

visited an old cemetery with a single yankee buried at the back corner, allowed to be there because he had protected a southern family right after the civil war.
