My friend and I stayed at the Arty Cottage for 3 nights while visiting the Shakespeare festival in Ashland. The Cottage itself was a delight to stay in, with amazing woodwork and impressive quilting on the beds, crafted by our hosts. There are special touches throughout the Cottage, including copper details overlaid on the most gorgeous wooden doors and wonderful light throughout. The back deck area was a treat to sit on as the sun set, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our host was friendly and greeted us on day 2, and was quite an artist!
Thank you Arty Cottage!
Staying at Arty Cottage is like living within a work of art. My family and I have stayed here on two different occasions. Both times we marvelled at the workmanship of the furniture, fixtures and quilts. We also enjoy spending an evening with Margaret and Thomas, touring his wood shop and her weaving shed. We look forward to our next visit!
We had a remarkable time here as we celebrated grandma's 80th birthday with 3 generations of daughters. The pictures did not prepare us for the utter beauty of the cottage and surroundings. Every square inch inside of the cottage is appointed with lntricate craftsmanship. Outside, there is solitude that can be enjoyed from the wraparound deck.
The best part? The owners welcomed us into their shop and studios to share their extraordinary work spaces. They were delightful, yet not intrusive. We will definitely be back.
What really sets this cottage apart from many you may have rented is that the owners have hand crafted and built every inch of the inside and outside. It is artistry and workmanship to the Nth degree! Go to the website Artycottage.com to take it all in. The cottage is in a wooded glen off a windy road. It's a great place to relax and just "be", and if you're going to the Shakespeare Festival, but don't want to stay in town - this is the place!
Margaret and Tom are warm hosts who respect your privacy, but welcome a visit to their workshop. We loved our stay.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and it was an amazingly satisfying experience. Located 15 min from Ashland up a winding road with nice vistas going to and from, it is set in a "bowl" that insulates it from sounds and views, providing incredible privacy. No barking dogs, no loud neighbors or traffic - just very peaceful and quiet. The air is also so clean that we slept better and longer than we normally do.
The cottage is outfitted with beautiful furniture and textile art crafted by the hosts and you can also purchase some items if you like. It is like staying in an art gallery but having all the conveniences of a well appointed home. There are so many thoughtful touches and we really felt at home, so much that we'd purchase this cottage in a hurry if it ever came on the market (unlikely).
Being without TV for 5 days was also refreshing although you have full WiFi connectivity (via satellite, somewhat slower than broadband via cable and also prone to weather outages as is any satellite-based communication or TV system).
It was a bit chilly in the evenings and we even had snow one evening (in mid-April!). The hosts provided ample firewood and resupplied us without us asking - very thoughtful. The fireplace heats up the whole house to the point it becomes "toasty" so no issues with keeping it warm.
Large kitchen area with all modern tools and very well equipped cabinets, utensil drawers and appliances. We recommend it highly to anybody visiting southern Oregon.
The location is very good for visiting the areas many wineries, Dagoba chocolate factory/shop, very nice restaurants and of course the theaters of Ashland, famous for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Finally, the cottage is located about 30 minutes from Medford/Rogue Valley Airport (code: MFR), with easy flights to Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, among others. We certainly hope to come back one day again!
