Location is across the road from JR Nagano station. Located at the quieter side of Nagano city centre. Clean and quiet hotel with comfortable bed and bathroom. Good wifi internet. There is a convenient store 3 doors away. Will stay here again when im back to Nagano.

My wife, daughter and I stayed for two nights. It was a really good sized room for Japanese standards which was great because we could comfortably fit our babies porta cot. The location was great too. Right next to the JR station on the quieter side. You do need to walk back through the station to reach restaurants etc but it's an easy 2min walk. I would stay here again.

Excellent location, just a short walk from the JR station on the East side.

There is no sign in English on the hotel building so memorize the Sunroute logo. Before you leave the station look for the logo high up on the hotel building opposite the East (Higashi) exit. When you leave the station by East exit, cross the overpass (often windy), take the elevator down to ground level, walk past the 7-Eleven and the Renoir apartment building (with its parking area for 2 cars at street level) to the hotel entrance.

Our room was quiet although we faced the road, an advantage of being on the east side. However, it was a longer walk to most of the restaurants: you have to walk to and then through the station to the restaurants on the West side.

We had a corner room on an upper floor with 2 windows facing the JR station, a train spotter might enjoy this. We could see the mountains beyond the station on clear days. The room organization was a bit peculiar and we ended up constantly moving the arm chair and small round table to meet our needs. There was too much furniture for the floor space and we were given an upgrade to a larger than average room.

We were chilly sometimes and warm other times and there was no individual temperature control for the room to adjust this. The bath towels were very thin; we asked for extras. We were constantly waging war with the shower curtain which never stayed where it belonged - we always had water on the floor. The yukatas had buttons which were almost impossible to button and unbutton - we had to slip them on over our heads, but they were not very generously cut.

The staff were very helpful even though some had limited English. We were impressed when we returned to the hotel after a day out and about that the staff gave us our key without our asking for it, but perhaps we were the only Caucasian couple there. We went to Komagane for two days and then returned to this Sunroute Hotel. We were given the same room and we were greeted as familiar guests with a “Welcome back Mr and Mrs ‘hfot’” - the staff remembered our name!

We will definitely return here when we return to Nagano.

This hotel is in an excellent spot, just over the bridge from the East exit of the station. There is no name in English to give you a clue it is the hotel you are looking for, but once you cross the bridge go down the stairs, or in the lift if you have luggage, go past the 7 Eleven and just a bit further along the road is the entrance to the hotel. We were able to check in on arrival, which was around 12 pm rather than having to wait for the customary 3 pm. The hotel and rooms are very tired, but clean and comfortable providing all you need for your stay. Good value for money. The bus station is just across the road. Most of the action and life is the other side of the station, therefore this is a quieter place to be.The reception staff speak better English than most hotels we stayed in. There is a restaurant if you don't want to go looking for your evening meal if you are tired after sight seeing or have just arrived. If you are happy to venture out there are many restaurants the other side of the station. In the station is a very good Tourist Information.

Room Tip: We always ask for a higher floor to avoid road noise

Had to agree with a previous reviewer that it was ludricous for a hotel (and there are 2 of this chain on either side of the Nagano station) to not have the hotel name in Roman numerals if they cater to foreign tourists. Took time to locate this one even though you can see it across the walkway.
Other than that the queen room had lots of space almost to North American standards and had enough space for a small table and chair. They also provided a luggage rack and closet space. The room was brightly lit and the bed was firm and pillows hard. Adequate space in the washroom so you can turn around without hitting anything.
Breakfast was normally not included in the rate.
