Pros: very near Nagano station, with a convenience store next door (not that it was needed, since Midori was just across the road. Easy access to buses and trains anywhere.
Service is ok by Japan standards. I was given two smoking rooms was I asked for non-smoking. (This might not be the hotel's fault since I booked through a 3rd party site.) they offered 1 non smoking room albeit reluctantly and claimed there were no other non-smoking rooms.
It was hot! This is a serious problem and I contemplated changing hotels at 10pm at night. The aircon only has 3 settings (Low medium high) and blows warm air only during the winter months. Even at Low, we were sweltering. If I turned it off, it would be stuffy. Asked, the hotel staff told be matter of factly to just open the window. So I spent two nights between an open window (with almost freezing temperatures outside) and an air conditioner which thought it was a hair dryer.
Rooms are small and aged. Many Japanese hotel rooms are shoebox sized but many of them (esp the new or recently renovated ones) have clever space savers that make life easy and even fun. But not this one.
I think I am quite easy to please and rarely give a poor rating here in TA. But I think the hotel should do something abt these issues.More
