“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed 27 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

We are a family of 5 (3 boys two of which are teenagers), and after staying in an apartment in Tokyo, this house in Kyoto was an absolutely fantastic experience. Firstly, it is very specious for Japan. It was by far the most convenient and most beautiful Accomodation we stayed in (we stayed in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka). It really offers the combination between traditional and modern Japan, just like Kyoto. A traditional design with modern amenities. The beds were very convenient, both the regular beds and the tatami mattresses. The location is great, walking distance from Gion and from the main train station. It's a very quiet neighborhood and there's a small park with playground next to it, and our 9 YO played soccer with the local boys in the afternoon.
It's a bit expensive but definitely worth the money and the experience.

Thank you very much for your comment. We're glad you liked the house and enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately, everything is expensive during the Cherry Blossoms Season, the highest of the year! We still think we offer good value.

“Traditional Japanese house in traditional Kyoto”

Very quiet neighbourhood in walking distance from Gion, from Kyoto station and from Nishiki market. Like most houses in Japan it is small but the space is utilised very well.

“Unforgettable experience!”
Reviewed 7 March 2018 for a stay in February 2018

Gojo Machiya Samurai Machiya was an place to stay. It was walking distance to most of the main attraction and when a temple was a little further, the house was located within footsteps to the local bus stop. The house itself has everything you could possibly need and it's very comfortable and warm during the colder months. Definitely enjoyed the floor heating and the option to choose between a western bed and tatami. What pleased us the most was how authentic it looked like. Anything from the wedding kimono, samurai armor, and the geisha doll, and antiquities really added to the this unique experience! The hosts Akiko and Patrick were extremely helpful and I would highly recommend staying with them!

“Traditional charm with modern features”

Our family of 4 loved our stay at Kyoto Gojo Samurai Machiya. After our tiny Tokyo hotel, the house felt wonderfully spacious. Warm, comfortable and fully equipped to make our stay memorable.

“Japanese home away from home”
Reviewed 10 January 2018 for a stay in January 2018

A great place to stay for a family for a few days or a week in Kyoto. In the direction of Higashiyama, close to the Gion area full of traditional houses and costumes. Highly recommended.
