Tranquil temple located in Ohara about 45 minutes from Kyoto. Not too crowded.

Beautiful zen garden.
A few charming Jizo statues concealed amongst the moss.

Sanzenin is in Ohara, about a 45min bus ride from central Kyoto.
The setting has a feeling of serenity that you don't always feel in central Kyoto. The garden is beautiful in all seasons and when we have been there in mid to late November it was stunning with the autumn Colour.

Staying at Seryo, I decided to visit Sanzen-In again. Always a treat. The gardens are at their peak in July (hydrangeas in full bloom!) and everything is green. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Note that it is about 1h by bus from Kyoto central station.

There are known for the beautiful moss place and the hydrangea garden. You can enjoy them in June. If it rains, the view will be more beautiful because of the rain and draws.

The temple is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. It's a beautiful place to take pictures and relax The gardens are stunning. The temple was dedicated to one of Japan's emperors.
