They are offering a new service, a Maiko show! It was such a lovely experience. She performed a traditional dance, sang and taught us a drinking game. We had a great time and it was such a great find. Would highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about the culture. The owner of the restaurant helped to translate for us and was very attentive. The matcha sweet and tea they served us was also delicious.

While trudging the Sannenzaka and Ninnenzaka shops we planned to lunch at our favorite soba café Omen, but found it filled with a long waiting line, and our Japanese friend recommended Kanmanza, just across the street from Omen, located near the entrance to Kodai-ji. What a find. Delightful place for many dishes. We were seated at a U shaped counter surrounding a glass enclosed mini-karesansui Zen garden, along side some friendly folks who enjoyed the food as much as we. I took in a tempura ebi on flavored rice, just perfect for lunch. Topped off with a traditional sweet. Highly recommended.

This is a very nice place to try kyoto specialities : the different types of tofu ( hot, cold tofu skin) ... I highly recommend the yuba ( cold tofu skin) served with a bit of wasabi and sweet soy sauce, the combination of flavours is really interesting. Also very nice eel ( unagi)!
