Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima Island...

Coming to Hiroshima you just have to visit the Peace Park, dedicated to all that lost their lives here. Have a walk around the park and see the Children's Peace Memorial, the Cenotaph and the view down to the Dome (pity there's a tall modern building behind the Dome which does rather spoil the view). Then, of course, walk to the Dome itself, one of the few buildings left standing after the blast.

I went during cherry blossom season and the pink blooms made walking around more enjoyable. But the highlight of course was about seeing the Cenotaph and looking down the straight line from here to the A-bomb dome. Make sure not to miss the Memorial Hall which is rather unassuming from outside.

A well kept area, very clean and nicely prepared. It was very busy but the area is so big you hardly notice.A quiet seat is possible.

The park is beautiful and it is free to walk around. I think you can actually spend a lot of time and get all of the history rather than going into the actual museum. A Few just stops are the children’s Peace Memorial and the incredible story of a little girl that got leukemia from the radiation exposure, the Peace bell that you can walk up and run, and the eternal burning flame. Glad I made the trip, very sad and emotional.

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park provides a wonderful space to contemplate what took place here in 1945, and to imagine a future without nuclear weapons.
