Owner description: The Lost Waterfalls is a moderate to difficult hike through the cloudforest in western Panama to three fabulous waterfalls. The hike can take from one to three hours round trip depending on how many waterfalls you want to see. If you are lucky you may spot sloths, monkeys, quetzals or any number of the fascinating wildlife living in the cloudforest.

Four of us in our early to mid 60s who walk and hike a lot tackled this walk to see 3 waterfalls. It was a stoney, muddy and elevation gaining walk to three waterfalls. The first was pretty and the 2nd bigger with a small pool at the bottom but nothing worth the muddy walk. The road there was pretty but very narrow and windy and it wasn’t easy to find the falls. I wouldn’t go back.

We loved this hike to three beautiful waterfalls. They are on private property so you must pay but it is nominal. No real negatives. Just Panama beauty at its best.

My wife and I recently did this hike in a group, guided by Boquete Outdoor Adventures. It's a really great hike, with pretty spectacular scenery and payoffs. Our group actually reached two of the three waterfalls, seeing the third from a distance.

A couple of things to point out: There may be various options, but at least in terms of the route that we took, the opening leg consisted of a quite steep, sustained uphill climb. The rest of the hike was on either uneven or downhill terrain--tricky, but not nearly as challenging as the opening shot. Judge the shape you're in and be prepared.

Second, there seems to be a bit of a debate about whether or not a guide is necessary or advisable. all I can say is the following: We've done considerable hiking. This trail is not marked nearly as well as one would expect in the United States, with clear blazes indicating turns. The correct route may or may not always be entirely obvious. At one fork, there was a directional sign, with an arrow, but the sign was broken in half, so that it was impossible to tell the intended direction. Early on the hike, a rather dazed and disoriented woman kind of wandered out of the forest. She had hiked the trail by herself the preceding day, had gotten lost and had spent the night in the woods. (She had also started out relatively late in the day and had run out of daylight.)

So, I'm certainly not saying that it's impossible to do this hike on your own--plenty of people do it and find the route pretty easy and obvious. But I have to say that I wasn't at all unhappy that we had an experienced guide.

We went by our own. From Boquete center to the Lost Waterfall tooks us 20 min by car. Then we walk around 5min up to a hill until we arrived to.the main entrance. The fee is $7 p/p. The trail takes around 3 hrs roundtrip up to the 3rd waterfall. Was really muddy , so we did it carefully.
Was really nice experience! We enjoyed it.

The hike to these 3 waterfalls is steep, rocky and muddy. Slippery coming down. That said, if you go slowly, there are handrails in some parts. You need to have some level of fitness. Don’t even think about this if you don’t have good hiking sandals or shoes. You’ll get muddy, it will rain on you, but it’s a spectacular hike.
