“Nicer than the town beach”
Review of Haouzia Beach

Haouzia Beach
Reviewed 28 June 2015

The town beach, Plage Deauville, gets really crowded, even during Ramadan. Although this is far further away, it more wild and rugged with fewer people to get in the way.

There are some facilities, such as the Parc Sondos, to get coffee and food. There are ambulant sellers too. This beach also gives an opportunity for a walk in the woods out to the Azemmour road, but only do that as a group of people.

The water's clean and refreshing. With a car, it is a no-brainer to come here for bating and sun instead of nearer town.

This is one of my favored spots to exercise my dog out of season. In winter it can be quite bleak with the Atlantic winds but come summer it can be very busy although not as crowded as the town beach. One word of warning a guest of mine who decided to find a deserted spot here to sunbathe in late spring soon found she was not alone and if my dog had not chased the bothersome man away who knows what the end might have been. Out of season not the place for single females.

Lovely Atlantic beach with big surf waves. Water was warm and clean but very rough for swimmers, ideal for surfers.

Well, I thought I'd balance out the last review which seems to be giving one star because no one was there - in the month of February! There is nothing there to be "dilapidated or abandoned". It's just a beach. There aren't any buildings on the beach to be in poor condition. There's a small complex at the beginning of the beach on the old coast road that used to go to Azemmour which is not in in poor condition. The beach is wild and lonely at this time of year. It's quite safe to wander along and pleasant to do so as there won't be many people around till the high season.

Just in case anyone is put off the town beach (Deauville Plage) by the previous review this has had a great deal of money spent on it over the past few years with a new promenade and cafes at sea level.

This beach starts at the end of the street lights leading from El Jadida in the Casablanca direction. Before that, the El Jadida beach is known as Deauville Plage. There's a small complex at the beginning of the beach and, in the summer, parking attendants and roadside stalls selling provisions and so on. In winter, there are few businesses operating and the beach becomes your playground, bereft of the tourists and Moroccans who come from Casa and Marrakech who make it this far out out of town. There're sand and rock pools, waves and nature. It's a great place if you like sunbathing in the summer in a less crowded area than the town beach or walking along the sea alone in the winter or out of season months. The coast road to Haouzia Beach at Azemmour has been cut now by the Mazagan resort complex and it's difficult to get past for a complete walk to the Azemmour beach itself. The waves rolling in from the Atlantic are a sight to see.

Give it a go!
