We really enjoyed our 9D8N itinerary with Borneo Adventure and would definitely use them again. We stayed 2N in Tabin wildlife resort (5 stars, loved it), 2N at Borneo Rainforest Lodge (5+stars, our favority), 1N at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge (2 star, could be better), 1N at Abai Jungle Lodge (2 star for accommodation but 5 star for boardwalk around resort), and 1N at MY Nature Resort (4 star). The group was well organized, kept me updated, was easy to contact (by phone and email), planned a great vacation and made all the transitions run smoothly. If you're looking for an adventure vacation in Borneo, this group is a great place to book and have all the details taken care of so you can have your dream vacation. I loved working with them. Susan answered all of my questions quickly and addressed all of my concerns. They partner with SI Tours and all the guides we had with SI tours were fantastic.

So clearly it’s luck of the draw with this company as they outsourced our guides for both tours. Our first tour “Semenggoh Orangutan & Annah Rais Bidayuh Longhouse” in Kuching was with Lynn. Lynn was fabulous! Great stories, energy and after checking our preferences, she made sure we had a very local lunch.

Second tour “Experience Brunei 3D2N” was less impressive. Upon arrival at the airport we had to wait an hour for more people to join us (which would have been fine if we had been given a heads-up) and our guide for the three days was sweet, but his English and knowledge was limited. Everything was very cookie cutter with no attempt to adapt the schedule

-based on our interests (eg local food vs horrible buffet with bus loads of Chinese tourists) or

-special events in the city due to the Sultan’s 72 birthday.

We ended up not doing the 8am tour on the 3rd day because we wanted to see the Sultan’s morning birthday celebration (which fortunately our hotel was near or we wouldn’t have known what a big deal it was). A better guide/company would have provided us with information on the Sultan’s celebrations AND moved our boat tour to 10am to accommodate both experiences.

Based on the our experiences I would not recommend Borneo Adventure, especially in Brunei!

Thank you for your review. Good to hear you enjoyed the Semenggoh and Annah Rais tour. We have are own vehicles and in-house tour guides. During the peak season we, like many tour companies, also use freelance tour guides. Many of these guides have worked with us for years. We are sorry you were disappointed with your tour in Brunei. Yes, the guide should have provided more information and adapted things based on the special event.

Wonderful experience. Paul our guide was awesome! Knowledgeable, helpful, and entertaining. Drive from Kuching was very comfortable in an air conditioned van, then a quick boat ride to Bako beach. Interesting to see the fishermen at work. Monkeys in the trees immediately upon landing, both silver tail with baby, and proboscis. We also saw macaque, bearded boar, a pit viper (at 2 feet!), flying lemur, monitor lizard, sea life and a termite march. Also a durian tree and other interesting vegetation. Did quite a bit of hiking, which some would rate strenuous. I am 60 and managed, but Paul was patient and strong. Expect high heat and humidity. Lunch was an all you can eat but simple buffet (chicken, vegetables, fresh fruit, some local food items). We did add on an extra, inexpensive boat ride before returning to the ferry landing. Worth it, if you want to see the beautiful limestone rock formations up close. Loved being on the water in the South China Sea!

My partner and I went on the 1 night/2 day tour with Edwin as our guide. We really enjoyed our time with Edwin, he spoke to other guides and the front desk so that they would contact him if there were any interesting animals around. Sure enough he took us to see a flying lemur and a snake! Saw lots of probiscis monkeys too and look out for a macaques, they'll steal anything you leave on your table including hats, cameras, sun glasses!

As mentioned in other reviews, the accommodation is basic but we found out that you can get the better rooms if you go through a company. Now that we have done the trip I can honestly recommend you book through Borneo Adventure. It might be more expensive but the extra money is worth it. The front desk at the national park give the better rooms to tour companies first, so we ended up in a private room with air conditioning and fans. Judging by the state of some of the other rooms and dorms I'm glad this was the case!

The only thing that could be improved on is the food (which is nothing to do with the tour companies). We chose carefully what we ate as the food is bought out and left out (in a heated unit that isn't switched on!) for a long time. Most of the food is not warm enough and for some reason they serve cold french fries. We both felt that this is an area the national park needs to improve on as it's only a matter of time someone gets sick.

Thanks for taking the time to review your overnight trip to Bako. Good to hear that you saw a range of wildlife with Edwin. Regarding the rooms, where possible we do try to book the newer rooms at Bako for our clients. We agree the food at the park canteen could be improved. This is something that the tourism association here has repeatedly brought up with the park agency and Ministry of Tourism. Unfortunately not much has been done despite the complaints about the canteen. We will bring this issue up again with the relevant government agencies.
