Review of Mandarin Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Jul 2018via mobile
Ok so the best thing about this hotel is it’s location. Super convenient for most things, waterfront is a short walk as are many restaurants and the Sunday markets are literally on the doorstop. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Wifi worked well.

My room - bed was large and comfy, aircon worked well and was adjustable. Shower was a good size but unfortunately the drain was a bit dodgy so the bathroom flooded each shower and it would be a bit smelly as the water slowly went down. I was on the first floor with a window looking into a back alley. This meant the room was very dark and there weren’t many lights in the room.

Price was another highlight of this room, it was really affordable.

Downside - breakfast is not included... but more so not available! And besides the 7 eleven I was unable to find anything open nearby to get breakfast most days before early pick ups for diving. So had to plan ahead and buy the night before.

We have stayed 3 times in this hotel during a 16 day period visiting Sabay. Rented 2 rooms, one family room for our three teenagers and a double room for ourselves. Experienced some confusion during email communication with staff, possibly due to lack of English, but otherwise had a good experience and kept on returning. Rooms are big, bathrooms even better, clean. Wi-fi worked fine. Lots of good eateries, massage around. Would return.

Room was larger and enough for a one man stay. I pick a room without a window and it was good for me to sleep through the day before The Borneo Marathon. The staffs were friendly and the hotel was nearby to places to eat and mote important thing is the Gaya Street market on Sunday morning. Best thing is that the hotel will send you back to the airport for free.

Room tip: you can choose to have window for city view or no window at all for more quality sleep.

Perfect location right in the middle of the town centre, it's close to everywhere and there are tons and tons nice food to eat just around the hotel. Service was fantastic, staff were very friendly and helpful, they gave us travel advice & organized a free shuttle to drop us off the airport. Room looks quite new & is tastefully renovated, it's small but has plenty of space/shelf to put our own stuff. It was very clean and tidy & they offer the cleaning up twice a day! The price is extremely reasonable, considering what we have got in return, it's superb value for money.
There is a PowerPoint next to the kettle but it doesn't match with the plug on the kettle. If I need to boil hot water, I have to bring the kettle to the table. That means, I have to move our laptop & paper works away so that I can put the kettle on the table. Better facilitate some adaptor on that PowerPoint to make it work with the kettle please.

You can not hope for a quiet environment because of the city but the best point is to be a convenient place. You can also go to the nightThank market by the seas in about 15 minutes by walk. The room is simple and it can be used for business. Be careful as the shower room will be flooded.

We just spent one short night in the Mandarin hotel and altogether it was a pleasant experience. We had a superior room with king size bed and the room was quite spacious and the bed rather comfy. The only real downside was that the room smells a quite a bit and the bathroom is tiny and not quite practical.
