A big NO for vacationers!!!!

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Nov 2018
Hi guys, i stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and there was hardly anything great about the hotel for vacation view point. The rooms ( standard rooms) are too small for 3 people and almost no space to keep your luggage too. The toilet was stinking, despite our request, nothing moved... moreover we were in hotel to sleep only, we lived with it. the whole infra never ave that postive vibe you look for..... Hence my advice not a great place for vacationers. The Wifi was on and off... the help must have come thrice a day to resolve the issue. The complimentary breakfast was mediocore , with very few options for us. Only watermelon , then bread and butter , even eggs were not provided ( chargeable ofcourse). No fresh fuit juice tooo.... for travellers esp with kid , breakfast is your real meal, even thats not availabe was a big disappointment.
Location is good, may suit the buisness travellers, but no for vacationers...

If you like filthy bathrooms and cockroaches in your room, this is the place for you.

Common areas like corridors had torn carpets and smelled of cigarette smoke.

We checked in to a foul smelling room, furnished with scratched furniture, and when it came to shower time, to our horror- the bathroom was not cleaned after the previous occupants checked out( See photo attached)

We promptly changed to another room - there were no apologies forthcoming.

The bathroom walls are stained with scum and dirt. The toilet roll looked like it fell into the bowl and then dried out for us to use-all crinkled and disgusting.
Taps were filthy.
Toiletries are only sufficient for one occupant

I woke up in the middle of the night - and found baby cockroaches crawling all over the dressing table!

I have stayed in even more budget hotels, but never so badly maintained. They were small but clean. This place is not.

Utterly disappointing and not fit to live in.
Avoid at all costs.

Close to malls and food outlets. Staff are very helpful and polite. Has a tour booking agency within the hotel.
Though cleanliness could be improved and choices for breakfast can go up a couple of notches

Room tip: good location

stayed in a standard room for 3 nights on a group tour. Room was clean and cozy. housekeeping done daily. very friendly service, no question ask when we wanted additional room key. only one setback, room key keep deactivating and we had to go down to the reception twice to activate it again. small hassle but no big deal. breakfast for all 3 days was basically the same. a few varieties, congee, noodles, western, salad, fruits, pastries, bread. adequate for the price we paid. since I am a small eater, no complaints. There is a karaoke lounge at the lobby, to chill. the Sunday market is walking distance, so is a shopping mall. when we had late nights, we bought lots of snacks and alcohol from the supermarket and brough back to our rooms. We will return for our next visit. no doubt.

Room tip: higher floors if you prefer to see seaview

The location is awesome. It's in downtown Sabah. Shopping mall, restaurants, the post office, the Phillipines market, travel agencies Jesselton Harbour are all in walking
distance. The Suria Sabah Mall across the road, the waterfront across the other side. A short 5 min walk to Signal Hill and Gaya 'walking' Street.
Stayed at Gaya Centre for 5 days and all I can say is that it we got more than our money's worth. On arrival the hotel looked excellent, check in smooth and we were given an upgrade to a room with a panoramic sea view. Do remember to ask for higher floor. Just ignore the previous reviews about worn out carpet in lift lobby area. The room was clean and complete with the basic necessities. The room itself was comfortable however the windows were thin and we were sometimes disturbed by traffic noise outside, particularly people on motorcycles with obnoxiously loud exhausts in the night!
The staff are all friendly and accommodating. The breakfast spread has enough choices for non-locals like us. They have charged MYR15 for the breakfast of my 11 year son which we found very reasonable. They have prepared separate strict vegetarian food (without egg, onion and garlic) for us which we appreciated very much. We have not received this kind of close attention in breakfast table in any other 3 or 4 star hotel in Malyasis. Exellent service !!!!
Check in at 3pm need to be improved. However, we were allowed to check-in early and provided us two extra pillows, iron, hair drier, safety-box and universal adaptor. They also require RM100 deposit upon check-in. There is no cloakroom but you can leave your baggage at the reception with tag. We mostly travelled by taxi and found taxi was available during late hour in front of the hotel.
Highly recommended.
