Convenient Location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Jun 2018
Close to malls and food outlets. Staff are very helpful and polite. Has a tour booking agency within the hotel.
Though cleanliness could be improved and choices for breakfast can go up a couple of notches

stayed in a standard room for 3 nights on a group tour. Room was clean and cozy. housekeeping done daily. very friendly service, no question ask when we wanted additional room key. only one setback, room key keep deactivating and we had to go down to the reception twice to activate it again. small hassle but no big deal. breakfast for all 3 days was basically the same. a few varieties, congee, noodles, western, salad, fruits, pastries, bread. adequate for the price we paid. since I am a small eater, no complaints. There is a karaoke lounge at the lobby, to chill. the Sunday market is walking distance, so is a shopping mall. when we had late nights, we bought lots of snacks and alcohol from the supermarket and brough back to our rooms. We will return for our next visit. no doubt.

Room tip: higher floors if you prefer to see seaview

The location is awesome. It's in downtown Sabah. Shopping mall, restaurants, the post office, the Phillipines market, travel agencies Jesselton Harbour are all in walking
distance. The Suria Sabah Mall across the road, the waterfront across the other side. A short 5 min walk to Signal Hill and Gaya 'walking' Street.
Stayed at Gaya Centre for 5 days and all I can say is that it we got more than our money's worth. On arrival the hotel looked excellent, check in smooth and we were given an upgrade to a room with a panoramic sea view. Do remember to ask for higher floor. Just ignore the previous reviews about worn out carpet in lift lobby area. The room was clean and complete with the basic necessities. The room itself was comfortable however the windows were thin and we were sometimes disturbed by traffic noise outside, particularly people on motorcycles with obnoxiously loud exhausts in the night!
The staff are all friendly and accommodating. The breakfast spread has enough choices for non-locals like us. They have charged MYR15 for the breakfast of my 11 year son which we found very reasonable. They have prepared separate strict vegetarian food (without egg, onion and garlic) for us which we appreciated very much. We have not received this kind of close attention in breakfast table in any other 3 or 4 star hotel in Malyasis. Exellent service !!!!
Check in at 3pm need to be improved. However, we were allowed to check-in early and provided us two extra pillows, iron, hair drier, safety-box and universal adaptor. They also require RM100 deposit upon check-in. There is no cloakroom but you can leave your baggage at the reception with tag. We mostly travelled by taxi and found taxi was available during late hour in front of the hotel.
Highly recommended.

Budget hotel with basic amenities and best location for us. We have been staying at this hotel whenever we are at KK.

Pros: between Suriah Sabah Mall and Wisma Merdeka Mall, just across our favorite resto Upperstar, room upgraded to de luxe with sea view, express checkout, breakfast is basic but not too much expected for its room rate (complimentary), with welcome drink, beside several restos and with 24 hr convenience store, email inquiries replied quickly, airport transfer can be requested for RM30 for 2 persons, breakfast area with sea view, with vendo machine for cold drinks

Cons: wifi in the room very poor, breakfast buffet items not refilled quickly

I visited this hotel and was there for one week for a training event and my stay was beyond awesome and the customer service especially in the restaurant was the very best. I high recommend them. The food was very delicious and the parking attendant was so nice and helpful. I can only say one thing... we all know that it is true that if you don't take care of your customers somebody else will... as a customer of the Gaya Center Hotel I can say that I was very pleased with their level of care... thank you

Location is good being right opposite a big shopping Mall with lots of restaurant choices.
Rooms at the front benefit from a great views and being woken up by noisy motorcycles visiting the 24 hr. McDonalds at all hours through the night. Rear rooms are quiet but no view.
Popular with Chinese tourists who pounce and strip the food from serving points at breakfast as soon as it arrives. Many items not available at times..bread, coffee, butter, eggs. Napkins..?
Furniture in rooms is worn & dated and carpets in hallways stained and marked.
Bar is overpriced by over 100% of the price at the Waterfront but has friendly bar staff.. I was the only customer on the occasions when I visited the bar - only during 'happy hour' ?
Reception staff are efficient and friendly.
