4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Aug 2022via mobile
booked direct via Accor, assigned to clean guestroom 2011 on higher floor with lounge separate from generous size bedroom and 25th floor rooftop lap pool lookout to the Gaya Bay Area, walking distance to eateries nearby. Feedback for maintenance: the room safe and landline phones weren’t working for stay August 23/24, had to visit reception counter to connect myself with my travel mates on other units (had my mobile phone conk out otherwise would not have notice the hotel phones are faulty).

Our family of 5 recently stayed at the Mercure for 3 nights on our recent trip to Sabah.
Our stay was nice and comfortable, we would certainly recommend this hotel.
We had a family suite with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The suite included a kitchen, dining , and living area. Great views from the glass doors in the living room.
The rooftop pool was nice, with great views.
Breakfast was good, with a variety of Asian and Western choices, and made to order eggs.
The hotel is located in the northern part of KK, close to Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal. Suria Sabah Mall is a short walk behind the hotel. There is a good supermarket (Tong Hing) around the corner.
There are many places to eat withing walking distance. Places we tried and liked nearby were Peppermint (Vietmamese), Pasta Pasta (choose your pasta and homemade sauces), Fook Yuen (Rice, noodles, Dim Sum, soup).
For ice cream fans, there are some nice ice cream places at the basement level of Suria Sabah mall. Plenty of restaurants in the mall as well.
We had a rental car. The hotel does not have parking, but it wasn't too much of a problem. The street parking in front of the hotel is run by the city from 8am-5pm on weekdays For parking during those hours, we bought parking coupons at the hotel. It was only MYR 1.10 for every 2 hours. Parking at other hours is free. Beware that coupons bought at the hotel cannot be used for parking in other areas.

The location is at the North Eastern end of Kota Kinabalu. This is perfect if you are planning a lot of water sports - Jessleton wharf is only 150m distance. The breakfast is included in the tariff, it is good but very Asian. The fare includes Nasi Lemak, noodles, Roti, Dahl, salads pastrami an egg station for fresh cooked eggs and Omelette. This suits my palate.
Our room was a double on the 18th floor. It included a bedroom with lounge. Very spacious, quiet and comfortable. One frustration was that in our week there, each day one of the elevators was out of action. Overall this is a nice hotel

All the staffs were very helpful. The room was wide and fill with latest (new) household appliances. The distance to tourist spots are walking distance (500-1000 metre). The swimming pool and the are was quiet small. However, still have great view of the sea.

We are in a business trip and reached the hotel earlier due to early flight.

Upon arrival, due to we are in a rush to attend a meeting, we seek for help from front desm to just do the simple registration first and leave our luggage , once the room is ready just move our luggae to the room as we are not coming back too early however has been rejected by them.

Another weird part is the Gym room, the operation time is from 8am-5pm only and we need go to reception to collect the key , after the gym need to return the key to the reception again, my suggestion to the hotel is, not everyone can come to the gym during this tine especially we are in business trip, maybe can extend the hour

The roof top bar doesnt serve beer during our stay due to some reason, very disappointed as we invited our friend to there with a nice view and atmosphere.

A postive thing to mention is the breakfast, service quite delicious local food, other than that, seems like the management need to put more effort into improve the operation since we are paying a 4 star rates

Room tip: Limited parking, and need to pay the parking

Appreciate one of your staff Mr Hisham attended my request after I booked the room and my family was happy with the sea view room!! Thnx a lot

I booked for 1 bedroom and my friend book for another category room while she did a separate booking. When both of us arrive midnight already inform to the front desk it's a manager and all the check in process was smooth. Furthermore, I already inform her that tomorrow I will check out from the room in the morning and came back in the afternoon to collect the key.

When the next day I came back with my friend and pass the IC to the receptionist Ms Patricia inform her that we extending our stay this morning already check out from the another room u can check the booking by this IC. She refused to take the IC and looking at her colleague like know nothing!! It's okay then I still ask her *did you need the booking voucher?* She didn't answer me at all and mumbling at the back ! Hang in and out the office to look for the Reg card and key. Hello??? She didn't even want to check the IC in the system at all and educate the guest it's not extending stay 🙂 ( I just need the key only it's that hard for her to gave us the key ??) While we carry heavy grocery to wait for her to find all the way and told us that the night shift colleague didn't follow up with them. I don't think that I need to teach her how to did her job well. I don't wish to argue with ur staff at all
The thing that make me mad is SHE DECLINED TO TAKE THE IC LET ME HOLD FOR A MINUTES AND ASK HER FEW TIMES TO TAKE THE IC !!

I think she have not much experience in hospitality industry and expert in system need more proper training as well !😮‍💨
