We visited Sri Melaka on our second night in KK (after an incredible meal at Mother India on the harbour front on the first night). A warm welcome by staff. The restaurant was full.

We ordered three dishes to share - Rendang beef, chicken with dry chilli and Kang Kong Belacan - and all were extremely tasteless. The most disappointing meal of our 10day trip to Borneo.

Incidentally we returned to Mother India for another amazing meal.

I sourced this restaurant from TA, as my husband really wanted a beef rendang.

His dish was nice and spicy and was plentiful but he said it was nothing special. I chose a chicken clay pot, which seemed to comprise mostly of bean curd pieces. There was not a lot of flavour to it, either.

The service was friendly and welcoming.

Overall, disappointing.

Staff were very helpful and polite. Reasonable choice of food. Dishes arrived at our table at different times meaning some people were kept waiting. Food was ok but nothing special compared to other places we ate at in Kota Kinabalu.

Very mediocre food if compared with cheaper eateries in town. We ordered a beef rendang which was very chewy and the rendang sauce very bland. We also ordered sambal squid which was a bit better but the sauce equally bland. All in all I advise against choosing this place

I wanted rendang and my hotel recommended Sri Malaka. The rendang was tasty and authentic. The service was fast, and they server was nice to suggest and explain some of the drinks that I was unfamiliar with. The medium portion of rendang with rice was adequate as a meal for 1 person, and it wasn't too spicy although it certainly had some heat as it should. Only down side was that there are several large tables for big family groups (as expected here), and if your timing is bad, you might have to wait a long time to order and get your food. Overall very good and exactly what I wanted that night.
