High up on the 18th floor with a partial sea-view and a panorama of Georgetown (see photos) this nicely decorated and well furnished space makes you feel like you’re living on top of the world. There’s a big living room with a TV set with English-speaking channels and a kitchen area with fridge-freezer and microwave. The wifi, aircon and everything else works fine.
The separate bedroom (NB this is a good-sized 1-bedroom apartment, NOT a studio) is smaller but has plenty of wardrobe space, there’s a big bathroom with a washing machine, and a lovely big balcony with those amazing views of shipping in the strait, the Komtar tower and the distant mainland.
This is a brilliant location, a couple of minutes’ walk from the seafront drive and a tiny beach with fishing boats. A small hawker centre operates just outside the back gate of the complex at breakfast and lunchtime, selling everything from noodle soup to dim sum, from rice dishes and rotis to cakes and doughnuts. And in the evening you don’t have to go far for dinner. The small streets behind the complex have restaurants with local and western food to suit all pockets and nearby Jalan Burmah has a much larger choice of restaurants and hawker centres. The apartment is on the route of several buses, including the frequent 101, which take you in one direction to Komtar, Weld Quay and various parts of old George Town and, in the other, halfway around the island to the beaches of Batu Ferringhi and the run-down but pleasant fishing village of Teluk Bahang on the edge of the National Park.
The building has a branch of Starbucks and also a mini-market but the prices are very high. The nearest reasonably priced supermarket is 15 minutes walk, and the big Tesco shopping centre is a few stops away on the route of 101 and other buses.
Kenn, the agent, speaks perfect English, is friendly and helpful, gets problems fixed quickly and will give you tips on some great places to eat. I’d recommend this lovely apartment for singles and couples, but it’s not really equipped for more people.
