We've been in Shizuoka for just over a week or so and have heard about this place quite a bit. Each time we went to get a table there was over an hour wait and the smell was always amazing.
We decided to go last night and troop down at 4.30 and got a table at the nice pensioners time of 5.30.
We had our young kids with us and my mother in-law and all were pretty excited about the smell.
When we got the menu, I was pretty surprised at the lack of choices, but if you're going to do a few things really well then that makes sense.
We all ordered something different and this meant we got to try everything amongst ourselves.
The staff were amazing. Always attentive and genuinely concerned in ensuring you enjoyed your meal.
Although we each got different meals, generally the meat is the same and it's the toppings, seasonings and marinades that differed.
I really wasn't that impressed. None of us were.
It wasn't bad, but just nothing out of the ordinary.
Sure, it has a novelty factor here in Japan, but meals like this are average when comparing it to Melbourne (my home town and therefore compared to everything).
I wouldn't queue for it again and would much rather stick to a Japanese restaurant or have the kids drag me to Mos Burger for a 2 minute queue.
I wouldn't put this in the steak house or hamburger category - but more of a hybrid between the 2.
