The room I booked was upgraded to a Seaview room. It was big with a kitchenette and big shower. The staff were super nice and the pool was a good size.
Now due to either climate change or something else, there was hardly a swimmable beach. It wasn’t clean by western standards either. A short walk further up was an area more suitable.
The breakfast selection was limited but I think the pho was from outside. Not the best pho but my bacon and eggs was nice.
To the right of the hotel there are loads of seafood restaurants and Thai ice cream vendors. The seafood cost was okay but I found someone doing bbq ducks and chickens over coals. The duck was super tasty but the chicken a bit dry. Good value nevertheless if you’re tired of the seafood.
If you’re after a place to lounge at the beach, this place isn’t suitable. The view is good but need to swim in the pool.

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed to find the renovation work still ongoing when we arrived, but to be fair, it didn’t disrupt or spoil our stay and the staff are amazingly attentive.

What people need to bare in mind is that we have travelled out of season, so most places are busy gearing up for high season and getting the resorts ready and this one is no different- the new owners are investing heavily in this little place so do give them a chance.

The rooms are lovely and well equipped our group of 6 had 3 sea facing rooms. The two on the upper floor had big jacuzzi baths which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast is included and offers both western and Vietnamese options. The mini bar provided is really reasonable too just 20k VD for a Saigon beer.

We even became famous at the site with the resort adding our family photo to their Facebook page.

To Kim and the team at Shades we say thank you for a truly special couple of days in Mui Ne.

Do not stay at this place. My partner and I walked into a complete construction site once we arrived. There was dirt and bricks everywhere. We couldn't even walk to the reception area! We were very much looking forward to using the pool but it was filthy from the construction (the staff said we could use it but there were about 10 construction workers working on the pool area). The room itself was quite nice but unfortunately, we were unable to actually enjoy ourselves in the room because of the terrible drilling and banging that started at 7:00 a.m. and continued throughout the entire day! We asked the staff why were not informed and all they said was sorry. They were nice enough to offer us a free room at the hotel next door but unfortunately there were maggots in the bed. We went back to the "construction site" and then woke up extra early for breakfast. The breakfast was terrible and then the drilling started in the middle. I could not even talk to my partner. We got out of there as soon as possible and left in the middle of breakfast. Do yourself a favor and do not book here. They obviously do not care about the state of this complex and will sacrifice unhappy customers for getting their money. You have been warned!!

Room tip: Choose a different hotel.

The apartment is next to the sea with excellent view. Staffs are very friendly and informative. It is very clean and cozy inside the apartment. They care to every detail in every corner in the house. The kitchen and cook helper are available if you would like to cook, pecfect for a group of family or friends. I definitely recommend the shades to my friends.

We arrived at Shades in the middle of the night after catching the sleeper train from Hoi An and were met by the security guard who despite speaking very little English was incredibly helpful. He carried our luggage upstairs and made sure we were settled before he left us, including looking for the air conditioning remote.

We collapsed into bed and thoght we were floating on a cloud. The bed was soooo comfortable! Next morning we went for breakfast and were greeted by friendly staff who were very obliging. Food was delicious and the menu offered a good selection. Juice, coffee, toast and cereals were self -serve and you could have as much as you wished.

After breakfast we went back to the room to unpack and were very surprised with the amount of wardrobe and drawer space the room had. There were coat hangers in the wardrobe too and all the furniture was solid and well made. The room was spotlessly clean, as it was throughout our stay. Wi-fi in the room was a bit hit and miss but outside the room it was excellent.

The pool was immaculate and in a very nice setting but unfortunately there is not space for sun loungers by the pool. Sun loungers were located on the sea front and when the sea was calm this was a relaxing area to be. However, in the low season there is no beach due to the problem of coastal erosion.

All in all we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, made better by the warmth of the manager, Phi. Nothing was too much trouble for him and every day he enquired about our plans and if possible assisted us.

Room tip: For longer stays apartments would be a good choice
