We were out exploring the area today when we stumbled upon this elephant camp. “Camp” being the key word here, this is no safe haven for elephants.
I had read many terrible things about how these poor gentle creatures are treated in Thailand, but I witnessed it first hand today.
The first baby elephant you see, has a chain around it’s ankle that is tied to a tree and is in a tiny enclosure for tourist to take photos with. It moves back and forth, in what I can only imagine as frustration.
To the back you will see a “guide” with a stick that has a sharp hook at the end, which he uses to constantly hit the elephant with.
These elephants looked broken. It really pained me to see people still paying to ride them and take photos with them. We got out of there the first chance we could but I had to take a photo of how this baby elephant was being kept so that no one supports this sickening establishment.
