We visited on 29 November 2017. We came for the ethical treatment of the animals, and specifically because they do not offer rides on the elephants. The hosts were exceptional. Funny and informative. Feeding the elephants was great. We first had to fill baskets with the bananas for them; which was a subtle lesson in animal care for my 6 year old daughter. Feeding the elephants was excellent. This was followed by the mud bath with them. Bring your swimmers; prepare to get muddy. If you opt not to do the mud bath, you are missing out - the first mud is the hardest, then you are dirty and free to enjoy properly. After the mud bath we bathed with the elephants in a pond. This was also excellent. A shower to rinse off the pond water follows - with the elephants, of course. Then a human shower and some tasty lunch. All in all, a great half-day excursion. I booked through KLOOK, and had no problems.

This sanctuary was on my list after reading a tonne of great reviews and watching a few different videos of people experiences on youtube.

I want to start off with saying that while this was an amazing experience, the elephants are not in a complete "natural" environment. They are still paraded around for the benefit of the paying tourist which to me took away a bit of the natural element. That being said, I did not witness any abuse to the elephants but saw that the trainers tried very hard to get them to do what they wanted them to do.

Regardless of that, they day was an incredible experience with very little expense to the elephants well being. All of the elephants had been brought from logging camps or trekking businesses where abuse would have been rampant.

If you have never had the opportunity to be up close with an elephant and truly see their personality and beauty than this is a must see. Well worth the money when it includes transportation, lunch, free professional photography, and a swag bag at the end of the day.

This was the second time I've visited elephants in Thailand however the first was not a sanctuary. Having seen the difference between the sanctuary and a non-sanctuary I would only ever advocate the sanctuary, although you may pay slightly more the experience is so much better! Firstly you can see how much happier the elephants appear, secondly you can see the care for them is much greater with much greater living conditions and total freedom provided, additionally as the elephants are happier they are much friendlier enabling you to interact better with them and feel like you're actually connecting with them.

My overall experience with the Jungle Sanctuary was a solid 5/5 experience, they picked us up promptly, and gave us a proper briefing about the elephants and some background about each of them, we fed them and took photos with them enjoying their food before going down into a river with them where you can splash and play with them, moreover you can see they are also really enjoying the experience too!

I definitely recommend paying more to go with the jungle sanctuary if you want to have a more natural and ethical experience! Please do not go to a riding camp for the "photo" you will get much better photos taken by the sanctuary's photographer here with happy elephants!

My partner and I visited the sanctuary on 30th October. We were picked up from our hotel in Karon Beach at 6:45am. When we arrived there were numerous groups already there. We were seated and offered tea, coffee and biscuits. The staff gave us a briefing, including what they do at the sanctuary, what the itinerary of the say was and what the elephant names were. The main guide was very funny and a great contribution to the experience. We were then directed to prepare the fruits for the elephants: bananas, watermelon and bamboo. Next we walked up the hill into the jungle and a dozen elephants including 2 babies met us. We were then able to linger and feed the elephants and take photos. We then went down the hill to give them a mud bath and then take them into the pool to cool down. After a shower we enjoyed a Thai lunch and returned to our hotel by 1:00pm. It was an amazing experience, all captured with a thousand photos published on Facebook. I highly recommend this ethical practice to all tourists. Only recommendation for EJs would be smaller intimate groups, although we were able to contribute in a large group I feel it would be a better experience with a dozen less people. I'm pleased that EJs offer a transfer service to and from the hotel but an air conditioned van would be much more comfortable considering it is an hour trip.
