This design hotel just opened last May. The hotel is located right at Bangniang beach and has three beautifully landscaped pools. The rooms are spacious and feature nice luxuries such as a rain shower and a large fridge. Mineral water is provided daily. Breakfast is excellent and offers Western and Asian dishes. My daughters loved the sushi for breakfast ....
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is a bit expensive but there are plenty of good Thai restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance. All in all an excellent choice in Khao Lak.

Just had a amazing dinner at this beautiful resort. We are staying at ramada hotel next door where the food is nothing to write home about. Initially we were looking for a little shack we used to go to 4 years ago called Tonson Which is no longer there but ready replaced by swanky new resort. Food was very tasty, very well presented, service was very good too. Prices were higher than in tow of course but considering it was a 4* hotel it was to be expected. We will be going back for sure before we leave.

Overall, a pleasant stay in a really beautiful resort but it has only recently opened, and appears to be experiencing some teething problems.

Location: Right on the beach, no more than a ten minute walk to shops and restaurants and about a five to eight minute taxi ride into the main street of Khao Lak (set price of 150 baht each way). There's a river (looked a bit murky/dirty) next to the resort visible from the beach club.

Design and fit out: The ultra modern architectural design is spectacular. Our room, a Grand Deluxe Ocean Side, was beautifully appointed and thoughtfully laid out. They are still finishing off the resort so some rooms and parts of the resort currently look onto some messy areas yet to be landscaped etc.

Check-in process: The check-in process is really lovely; no standing at a desk. You take a seat and are offered a lovely iced tea drink and cool towels to enjoy while the lovely reception staff take care of the paperwork. The lady who checked us in, Aya, was delightful and was helpful throughout our stay.

Pools/beach: the larger pools which envelope the accommodation buildings look amazing but feel a little sterile. However, we found the infinity pool located on the beach (referred to as "the beach club") more atmospheric, with lovely views out to sea. On the down side, the dance music blaring from the nightclub-style sound system seemed out of place and was really annoying. On one occasion we asked for it to be turned down and they obliged. It was quite pleasant when it was just background music but as a rule it seemed to be on dance party volume. Perhaps they're aiming for a particular clientele, but if you're looking for peace and quiet, this would be an issue.

The beach itself was nothing special. The water was quite churned up with sand which I imagine was due to the monsoon season. Maybe it’s nicer in the dry season? There was also an issue with rubbish on the beach. It seems that the resort isn’t (yet, at least) bothering to deal with the rubbish that is dropped on or washes up on the beach, and there was quite a bit of it. There seemed to be no shortage of staff whose job it is to "patrol" the beach; perhaps some of them could be allocated to keeping it clean?

Food: Ok overall and of course more expensive than at restaurants nearby, but not exorbitant. The breakfast buffet was quite nice. For other meals, serves of some dishes were extremely small and there were very few vegetarian menu items. I did manage to get some dishes altered to suit my needs but the language barrier made it very difficult (see below). This applied at breakfast as well.

Service: This is the one area the resort really needs to improve in. Before Khao Lak, we stayed at The Slate in Nai Yang for a few days and the service we experienced there was brilliant, in quite stark contrast to what we experienced at La Vela. Service falls down in lots of ways and, I imagine, for a quite a few different reasons. The staff are pleasant and smile etc. but many seem to lack training in the basic principles of customer service. By way of example, on the afternoon we arrived, we headed to the bar to enjoy a cocktail and although we were the only people there at that time, the bar man completely ignored us. After ten minutes or so, I got up and asked for a menu. Ordering drinks involved the same routine. The people who arrived after us got similar treatment. The staff at the beach club were similar. Getting their attention was sometimes really difficult even when it wasn't busy, which was most of the time, and they never wandered around to see if anyone wanted to order anything. I imagine this will be costing the resort quite a bit in lost consumption.

Only a few staff seem to speak English to any sort of functional level and there also seemed to be problems with communication between Thai staff and those from the Philippines of which there were many. We suspect this contributed to our experience of the only dinner we had at the resort which was basically a comedy of errors. Trying to ascertain what vegetarian options would be possible was made extremely difficult by the language barrier. We finally got something sorted out, but our main courses arrived before our entrees which arrived during our main course, and were completely wrong. The people at the next table appeared to be having similar problems, with dishes going back and forth.

Having said all of that, the service issues certainly didn’t make our stay miserable. We had a really nice time. I just think they could improve a great deal in that area, and given how new they are, perhaps it will just be a matter of time and training.

Room Tip: Ocean side rooms are closer to the ocean/beach but only a handful face the ocean.

We recently enjoyed an amazing holiday at La Vela in Khao Lak .... Our third holiday in Khao Lak and definetly the most superior of accommodation and service ,we could not fault anything. The grand delux pool access room was a great choice , it was very private and provided all our needs including a jacuzzi on the terrace . The staff were so friendly and helpful ,a special thank you to JJay & Alex for always being happy and helpful . The Breakfast bar was beautiful gourmet food with plenty of variety and meals in the restaurant were reasonably priced and very healthy and delicious !
The pool areas and bars were equally amazing ,happy hour at all bars every day .
This architecturally designed hotel is truly incredible the way it has been designed to compliment the environment and enhance the local community .Every where we looked we were amazed at what the designer had come up with ... Incredible !
We were lucky to meet the owner and enjoyed hearing about his passion to design & build this hotel . Even though this was a soft opening we were no where near any construction and were not disturbed by any noise .
We would highly recommend this Hotel for couples or groups of friends .

Room Tip: Grand delux access room
