Black mold behind a/c curtain

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Jul 2024
I strongly suggest you check around the a/c unit if staying in this hotel. My overnight stay result in a severe headache, coughing and congestion due to black mold we found. Other than the mold we found the staff very nice and the room was clean otherwise

Having just spent an awful night at the Hampton Inn in downtown Albany, we were apprehensive about staying here. We booked here as there was a superior selection of restaurants close by, Crossgates Mall was on the doorstep and access would be easier to places we planned to visit.

What a difference - chalk and cheese! This is a good property. Reception staff were friendly and professional. Our room, whilst being somewhat similar to the downtown Hampton Inn was larger, brighter and generally more welcoming. The a/c unit was quiet and didn't emit cold air when switched off. We didn't need it on as the weather had gone cooler. The window opened (with integrated bug screen) for fresh air. The bathroom was still pretty basic but there was shower gel!! Beds were comfortable and it was clean with regular housekeeping. Public areas were also bright and modern and whilst breakfast was unremarkable, the area was kept tidy despite being busy. Parking was free (unlike the downtown Hampton Inn).

One slight downer but no deal breaker - there was a large barbeque area adjacent to the car park we overlooked. Don't know if it belonged to the hotel or what looked like a public park adjacent. It was used over the two nights we were there by a raucous group who were drinking and cavorting into the late evening. We were high up and the window provided fairly decent sound proofing but we couldn't have it open for fresh air in the evening because of the noise and faint unpleasant odour of what ever this group were cremating.

Great stay, comfy bed, quiet location, friendly staff, tasty cookies, with a hearty breakfast to boot. Can’t complain about any of that!
Since I have to keep writing to fulfill the requirement, I will also add that parking is plentiful and free.

The room was nice and comfortable, but there was a bit of hair in the shower and we were disappointed that we had to pay $75 for our pet even though she was an emotional support pet with documentation. In addition, I called the front desk at night for an extra comforter for our kids because they were cold and was told she would be up in a few minutes. That comforter never came, unfortunately. The staff at the front desk were pleasant overall and the breakfast was great!

Very clean room. Beautiful pool area. One of the nicest I’ve seen at a basic hotel. Wonderful, accommodating staff. Great breakfast. Very comfortable and quiet. My son loved going down to get cookies each evening and the complimentary waters were a nice bonus! Will return when in Albany again!

Room tip: -take advantage of breakfast, water, cookies. -use the pool.

I rarely write reviews, but this was the worst customer service I've ever received. Due to a storm and massive power outage in the area, and expecting to need a warm place for us and our young kids to sleep tonight, I reserved a room at this hotel. At that point, we were expecting the outage could last days as there was no restoration time estimate. Thankfully, power was restored about a half hour after I booked the room and I was on the phone immediately with this hotel to explain the situation and ask for a refund or some other accommodation. They flat out refused to do anything. No refund, no credit, no reschedule. I had literally had the room reserved for less than an hour. The first person who answered just said I was past the cancellation date, so I asked for the manager. The front desk manager showed no compassion or care, and flat out said that due to the snow and emergency situation, they weren't giving refunds--so essentially saying they're taking advantage of people in an emergency situation. After this, I called Hilton customer service directly, and was essentially given the run around, had to speak to 3 different reps on 2 different calls, and they did nothing but call this same manager. The first Hilton rep said that I could cancel but there is a fee of one night room rate...and I had a 1 night reservation. She said she had to call the hotel to request they waive this fee, but when she did that, the Hampton Inn manager refused. She then tried to call and ask if they'd modify the reservation to a future day, and they didn't answer her call. Very unprofessional, and very disappointing. Be warned that if you have any issue with a reservation, or extenuating circumstances if any kind, this hotel will do nothing at all to help you.
