Having just spent an awful night at the Hampton Inn in downtown Albany, we were apprehensive about staying here. We booked here as there was a superior selection of restaurants close by, Crossgates Mall was on the doorstep and access would be easier to places we planned to visit.
What a difference - chalk and cheese! This is a good property. Reception staff were friendly and professional. Our room, whilst being somewhat similar to the downtown Hampton Inn was larger, brighter and generally more welcoming. The a/c unit was quiet and didn't emit cold air when switched off. We didn't need it on as the weather had gone cooler. The window opened (with integrated bug screen) for fresh air. The bathroom was still pretty basic but there was shower gel!! Beds were comfortable and it was clean with regular housekeeping. Public areas were also bright and modern and whilst breakfast was unremarkable, the area was kept tidy despite being busy. Parking was free (unlike the downtown Hampton Inn).
One slight downer but no deal breaker - there was a large barbeque area adjacent to the car park we overlooked. Don't know if it belonged to the hotel or what looked like a public park adjacent. It was used over the two nights we were there by a raucous group who were drinking and cavorting into the late evening. We were high up and the window provided fairly decent sound proofing but we couldn't have it open for fresh air in the evening because of the noise and faint unpleasant odour of what ever this group were cremating.
