I had an awful experience at this Holiday Inn. Here's what happened: I was in Clifton Park, a town around 15 miles from this location and I needed a place to sleep for the night. I called the Holiday Inn at Clifton Park (which is a different location than this Holiday Inn) and the Holiday Inn rep told me they're sold out in Clifton but there is one room available by Albany airport. Happy for a place to rest, I drove the 25 minutes to this Holiday Inn only for the male front desk receptionist to coldly tell me that there weren't any rooms available here at all. No apology for making me drive 25 minutes out of my way, just cold indifference. When I told him that his own colleagues at the Holiday Inn hotline assured me there was room, (they even took my name and credit card info when I booked) he flatly said, "well they were lying". I trudged out of the place shocked and despondent and I had to sleep in a rest area because all other hotels in the area were booked as well. Looking back at this outrageous incident, I should have demanded that they at least attempt to make things right by checking if any of their subsidiaries have availability, but I was beyond exhausted to argue further.
My advice to management: train your employees to act more hospitable
(this is the hospitality business, is it not?) and never ever be cold or condescending to your guests or potential guests, especially if it's your error to begin with. Mistakes happen and I almost could have tolerated it if it weren't for the terrible attitude of the receptionist. I've been an IHG member for over 5 years and I'm highly unlikely to go back to a Holiday Inn branch for any future travels.
