Great Stay at the Renaissance Albany!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Jul 2023via mobile
My stay at the Renaissance Albany, NY was fantastic! The service was great, and I loved the well-equipped gym, comfy bed, and spacious room. The place was clean, and I appreciated the use of Aveda Hair products. Highly recommended for a memorable experience!

I've been meaning to write a review for this hotel for many years as I have frequented it since my son attended Siena college way back in 2013. I continue to choose this hotel almost every time I'm in the Albany area which is at least a few times a year. This is a beautiful and well preserved hotel in a historic building downtown. The staff is almost always top notch and the rooms consistently clean and well-maintained. (We had an exceptional time at March madness this year, and I was impressed at how the hotel handled the high volume of traffic!) My Platinum elite status is always acknowledged when I stay here which I truly appreciate. I am also very pleased that this Renaissance finally re-opened its concierge lounge post-Covid closing as I do believe brand loyalty should be rewarded with incentives like this. Sometimes the rates do get astronomical if there are big events happening downtown but I highly recommend this hotel 💯!!

The hotel is very nice. We had two rooms, one for kids and one for adults. The size, layout and furnishings were excellent. The bathroom was excellent. The hotel has lots of character and is very comfortable. Free on street parking was available adjacent to the hotel on Saturday night. It is immediately adjacent to the Capital complex. Only reason for four stars instead of five was no functioning air conditioning in one room. The hotel attempted to repair it, but it stopped working again. No further relief was provided by the hotel for the uncomfortable room. I would stay here again despite the air conditioning problem.

I purchased a one night hotel voucher at a cancer auction for this hotel, so that my family could stay here when they were in town. I have never been able to use the voucher and they tell me now that it is expired. It expired b/c it was impossible to redeem. You can’t deem online. You can’t email anyone to redeem. You can only redeem by calling a # that goes right to voicemail and no one calls you back. Awful customer service. I wrote the Operations Manager and she could care less, here exact words, “Unfortunately, being that this certificate expired , it is not one that we can honor. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.” I thought Bonvoy voucher didn’t have expiration dates? Evidently not.

I will never stay here again nor recommend it to anyone. If they can’t redeem a simple voucher for a customer that their staff issued, how can they manage a group reservation or set up a conference for you?

The Hilton Albany or Hampton Inn Albany are right up the street in downtown Albany and both have competent employees, I’d pick them if i were you.

Dear Geoff P,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback in regards to your recent interaction with the Renaissance Albany Hotel. We sincerely apologize that we are unable to accept an overnight donated certificate that expired in March of 2018. All of the auction items that our hotel donates for various charities have an expiration date of one year from the date of the event that it is donated for. We do apologize for any inconvenience this causes you and we hope to have an opportunity to serve you in the future.

Sincerely,

Leola Edelin

The hotel had potential but quality was a let down. At first blush, it looks quirky and well-kept but the details were a letdown. The bathroom drain was completely clogged. When I asked where to have dinner the receptionist recommended the hotel’s restaurant touting its deliciousness… the medium-well burger I ordered came out burnt and flavorless. I thought it was ordering something safe.
On the positive side, the staff is very nice (especially the restaurant’s breakfast shift, Natasha!) and the location was convenient.

Room tip: There’s no valet. Head directly to the first floor (one up) of the parking garage and head straight into the lobby.

We stopped by the bar at the Renaissance hotel for a nightcap and were greeted with rudeness. For some reason we were told that the only place we could have a drink is “the library” which was less than inviting. Not sure why this space is so restrictive. We were asked to move from one area to another but it was not clear why. Perhaps understaffed? Not sure. We are not exactly a rowdy group of four middle-aged people so it was a bit surprising. We spoke with another couple that had the same experience. We had dinner at The War Room down the street so thought it would be fun to stop here too but that was not the case. Hopefully management will make the space more inviting or just close early if unable to accommodate customers at 9:30pm-ish on a Friday night.

Room tip: Hotel seems nice but not sure about the bar.
