Stay at the Hilton

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 May 2021
I had a business meeting Monday morning and decided to drive out the night before. I should have known it was going to be a disaster when I called the property directly and they transferred me to the main reservation center and was on hold for just a hair over an hour. I reserved a Queen Room. I put a Queen Room on my credit card to hold a Queen Room. Arrived to find the elevator fro the parking garage out of order, luckily I had only a tote bag.

Beautiful lobby, ridiculous service. The young woman was not at the reception desk and came out from a back area like something out of the Wizard of Oz. I am them informed that the only Queen Room was ADA accessible. I have travelled extensively and have stayed at Marriott since the old days of the Marquis Club, I should have had the room that my card insured I have. And it seems that the elevator has been out of order since Otis invented the elevator.

If that room was the Marriott idea of handicapped accessible, then they should be fined, reprimanded and ashamed. The beds came from the local funeral home because they can be easily compared to a coffin. I am not physically challenged, the bed was difficult to get in and out of, the room was a slap in the face to someone in a wheelchair, the coffee creamers were solidified and disgusting and to add insult to injury, the towels were torn and threadbare.

If you go there, be prepared for breakfast by room service because if you go down in the morning and ask about the restaurant for breakfast you are told to order room service. I walked five minutes the Hilton and was greeted like a guest and could get breakfast.

And the final slap in the face because we are so far past insult it is disgusting…I filled out the Marriott email questionnaire and their smiling answer was basically, gee we are sorry that you thought our magnificent facility was t blame so we are going to forward this to the manager in charge. I used to think that the Marriott chain was the best in the business, but in the last five years I have stopped using Marriotts in three different states…and they simply don’t care.

I cannot blame this hotel for the location, but its a slight challenge to find it. Once there, a very good stay!
I felt like I was on a Grand Prix road course taking sharp lefts and right till I got to the hotel and then finding the parking garage required more loop-de-loops!
Once in it, my room was really nice. Excellent mood lighting, clean with Kuerig and ample space.
As its looking at the NY State Capitol, several streets are closed for safety. The view is stunning though.
A nice bar downstairs affords a drink before bed, so we were happy.
I would stay there agin.

I have stayed in dozens of Marriots all over the country, and I have no trouble saying this is one of their most elegant, comfortable hotels. Our room is beautifully appointed with a big, brand new bathroom, comfortable bed, and wonderful bedding. We ordered breakfast up to the room and received it in less than 30 minutes exactly as ordered. They follow strict COVID-19 protocols, which made us feel very relaxed and safe. The only down side has nothing at all to do with the hotel--it has to do with the hit downtown Albany has taken during the pandemic (as is true with pretty much all of New York State.) No nightlife, but still some very good restaurants in the area. So if you are going to find yourself in Albany for any reason, my recommendation is to book yourself a room here.

I stayed at this hotel for one night, my expenses were itemized on my overall receipt totaling 141.26.
When I checked my card utilization I was billed 174.26 and an addition 17. Making my grand total 191.26. They have yet to identify why.

the good:

the lobby of the hotel is pretty amazing - look up and appreciate the original ceiling. the rooms that face the capitol building have views that cannot be beat. the gym is nice and spacious. the breakfast with status is really generous. there's guest laundry on the 3rd floor - it would be nice if they had a quarter machine there as the front desk runs out of quarters.

the things that need work:

the front desk staff is nowhere to be seen and you have to wait for them to appear. there should be a bell or something.

if you come into the hotel before 6am from the "front door" it is locked and you need a key to get in. only the key reader is broken. so if you need to come in - AND no one is at the front desk - it can be problematic.

the restaurant on weekends is a hotspot - I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, depending on how you like night clubs....but the food itself at the restaurant is just average at best and very little variety.

the rooms were not cleaned very well. it's newly redone so they can get away with it - for now. but it will get worse over time. examples - there was something that looked like a puddle of dried wax on the floor by the sofa and the remote was covered with grime (so much for covid sanitization).

overall I'm not sure there is a better hotel in Albany. this one is good but just needs a little bit of work. but I would recommend and stay again.

Room tip: facing capitol (even numbers) - corner rooms are big and have extra windows 02 line is best

I stayed at this hotel on business and the staff is anything but competent. As a lifetime Titanium member the hotel overcharged me for my stay by one day, told me they would correct the bill and 24hrs later I still can't submit my expenses because they still haven't corrected the bill. If Marriott was smart they should fire these people and replace the front desk staff with people who know what they're doing.

Room tip: Don't stay at this hotel
