The place to stay in the capital

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Feb 2020
The Renaissance was a lovely overnight for business recently. While not a glorious luxury hotel, every staff member and facet of my stay was enjoyable. The room was very spacious and modern, with great views of the city. Room service and dinner downstairs were solid as a rock. My hat is off to this quality spot in Albany.

This hotel is old and very grand, yet has been thoroughly modernized. It’s across the street from the state capital, in a nice looking part of town. Breakfast in the restaurant was very fast, very good, and reasonably priced for a high end hotel.

Driving to New York from Toronto for New Years. Decided to stop in Albany overnight.
The Renaissance is a beautiful old building with a classy lobby, in the heart of Albany.
Upon check in I was very impressed with the preservation and noticed that the property had received awards for the design and renovations. When we reached the room all that ended. Ultra modern room with aluminium tables. Space age lighting and hanging barn style bathroom doors. Not what we expected. The decor is attractive but not for a historical property. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We only stayed the one night but did have a late night cocktail at the bar. Bartender was new to area from Boston and introduced us to a new “baby bourbon” from Hudson. Excellent recommendation. If we made this trip again we would likely stay at the a Renaissance again.

This may be our favorite place to stay in New York and have done so a handful of times. Our first stay a few years ago we got a complementary upgrade and the room was AMAZING. Another time we came up for my sister's birthday and they hooked us up with adjoining rooms. Every time we stay we are blown away by the décor and service. Great location and convenient garage parking.

This hotel is the best place to stay if you are going to a concert at the Times Union in Albany. We checked in and went to the bar and ended up having dinner there as we were so comfortable and having such a good time. Everyone was so friendly. If there is a concert going on it is best to make a reservation for dinner. The room was very nice and clean and there is an enclosed walkway to the Arena from the hotel. I am going back in March to see Michael Buble and am staying here again and looking forward to it. The hotel is reasonably priced except when there is a big concert and then they double the price of a room.
