Old downtown Property

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 May 2021via mobile
Stayed here for 1 night with a sports team. It was a typical downtown type of hotel versus how nice the new Hampton Inn properties have become. This location did offer parking behind the hotel. The elevators are very old and slow. The room was dark with a small bathroom that needed to be updated. Bath had a tub only with a cloth shower curtain. Disgusting. Bed was very uncomfortable. The positive is that Zach that worked the front desk was very nice. Certainly would not recommend this property when there are so many nicer Hilton properties in the Albany area.

As a Hilton Honors member, I like to stay at different properties across the portfolio. I had previously been to and reviewed here the Hilton and HGI in Albany. I think I had been to this Hampton many years ago but hadn't been on TripAdvisor then.

Upon arrival, since I had the Digital Key, I bypassed the desk figuring on going straight to my chosen room, which I had checked into online the day before. It worked fine in the elevator, but when I got to my room it did not. The key did not activate in green as it should to be used in the correct door. Back down in the lobby, now I did partake of the front desk. The process was friendly and efficient. With the old fashioned plastic room key in hand, I returned to the elevator and eventually my room.

The room was amply sized for a Hampton Inn and the bathroom was clean and provide enough space for my toiletries. There was a barking dog next door, which luckily stopped when most people were sleeping.

COVID protocols were being observed, so I felt safe throughout my stay.

In the morning, I did not partake of breakfast, as I was nervous about getting an Uber ride back to the Amtrak station. Check-out was simple and quick.

Room tip: No outside noise despite facing Pearl Street

We used the jacuzzi and it was so stress-relieving! It was great! The king-sized bed was very soft and we both slept like babies. The virtual key card made it so simple to access key-controlled areas. Top notch service all the way around.

Weird man kept running on the spot, was he homeless? Was he an employee? Nobody knows... strange, he was outside and then inside the hotel... baggy pants, had a Strange grin. He just kept running on the spot. I don’t even want an explanation, I just want to ponder this mystery for the next 40 years and come up with dozens of theories. Room quite nice. Breakfast was pathetic. Probably eat better in N. Korea. Parking was $16... gate was snapped/broken next morning...

Stayed here four nights between the holidays and it was a great value for the price. Extremely close to the Palace Theater for a concert and McGeary's Iris Pub around the corner for great beers and sandwiches! Incredible fruit water in lobby offered most of the day and the breakfast buffet (pre-COVID obviously) was the among the best I have seen. The beautiful lobby was welcoming each morning when we came down to eat, as well as the front desk staff. The only negative I have is the fact that when it snowed/rained the roof (we were on the top floor) leaked a little and all that was offered by management when I complaiined was to switch rooms, which we did not want to do after having decorated ours for the holidays and staying several nights in the room we were in. Surely something else could have been offered. That is management's fault and not the employees. Otherwise, a beautiful trip.

Room tip: high up for the view, but not top floor in case the roof leaks like ours did

My reason for coming was to test the Digital Key feature since my wife and I are both over 70 and with comorbidities and need to be ultra cautious in order to avoid COVID.
The digital key only worked, not when we needed it prior to arriving at the hotel BUT the next morning after we had spent the night there. We had to resort to visit to the front desk, stand there about 1/2 hour as they tried to sort out the digital key mess. This never worked so in disgust I said before I fall asleep here in the lobby just issue me a plastic key for our room. Being in the lobby , being there for a prolonged period were fails on the part of this hotel and chain in COVID times. I consider their big ad campaign about how safe it is in COVID times bunk. Really lies. Unreliable program that no one can trust.

I can’t imagine being more disappointed for a Hilton Honors member who has used Hamptons all over the country in the last few years.

This was a massive snafu. They owe me an apology.
