Stayed here for a few nights on a business trip. The hotel has become average at best. I had a suite on the executive floor with two rooms but only one window in the bedroom (the window is important in this review). Four elevators in the hotel but only three were operating. When you take out 25% of your capacity to move guests to and from rooms you end up with long lines. I used a stairway to go down more than once (which took me out to a street and not the lobby).
The room was hot. There were directions on the wall for how to control the temperature to make it cooler. The room was 74 degrees so I followed the instructions. Upon returning to the room a few hours later the temperature was up to 80! I informed someone who said it would be taken care of. Got back to the room later and the heating/cooling system was turned off and my one window was open. That’s how it remained for my days/nights here but the room was cooler (especially considering it was about 20 degrees outside).
Most employees were wonderful including my housekeeper who did an outstanding job. Front desk employees too, who tried hard to take care of every issue. The banquet staff were amazing. A couple of employees though not so much. One hilton shuttle driver informed us they were done with work at 7 pm and would not work past that time even though we needed to make three stops on a very short run. I was also charged for coffee by the person in the coffee shop that I didn’t authorize be charged to my room (the front desk did remove the charge when I checked out). The issue was the executive lounge where I would get coffee was closed when it was supposed to be open and I was instructed to go to the coffee shop instead. The person working there must not have ever been told that and didn’t seem to have much of a sense of humor about it either.
This hotel should be a crown jewel for Hilton. Steps from the NYS Capitol and government agencies in Albany. Stay here if you must but work needs to be done to bring this hotel back to the way it should be and once was.
