1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Sept 2019
This is regarding Travelodge Inn and Suites Wyndham Albany. It smelled bad as soon as we entered. everything was old, including towels, sheets and bedding. The hallways and rooms were not vacuumed/swept. And at 7:30 am there were no breakfast items left!! Avoid at all costs! You get what you pay for.

I’ve stayed at this Travelodge before. I’ve had both good and mediocre experiences here. This stay was better than the previous one.

The hotel has undergone renovations.

On arrival, I was checked in right away. I stayed for three nights this time.

The lobby area was nice. It had seating in front of a wall-mounted flat-screen HDTV. The public computer was located there.

I was assigned to a room that was unsatisfactory. It had a maintenance issue, and the handyman was gone for the day. I got moved to another king room with no issues. It was an updated room with the new hardwood flooring which I liked.

Room features included a mini-refrigerator, a microwave, hair dryer, bathroom amenities, desk, iron, and ironing board.

Room lighting was adequate with a light in the hallway, bedside table lamps on each nightstand, and a lamp on the desk.

There were plenty of electrical outlets. There was an outlet next to the bed and another at the desk. There was one available socket where the A/C was plugged in.

The room had a larger-format Insignia brand flat-screen HDTV. My guess was that it was 40 inches or maybe even 43 inches.

The mattress in this room was comfortable enough.

The bathroom amenities were lined up very precisely.

The breakfast area was a good size with seating at tables and chairs.

The free Travelodge Bear Bites continental breakfast was good. The main feature was the Carbon's Golden Malted Gourmet Waffle Baker for make-your-own waffles. Other offerings included Cheerios, bran flakes, oatmeal, red delicious apples, bananas, English muffins, and breads for toasting. Beverages included juices, regular and decaf coffee and tea.

The hotel also had a fitness center and a laundry facility. The fitness center had a couple of treadmills, a stationary bicycle, and an elliptical stepper.

The biggest advantage of this hotel is its location. It is diagonally across Wolf Road from the driveway to the Colonie Center, one Albany’s best shopping malls. It is also close to many restaurants, ranging from fast food to upscale dining. And, the Northway Shopping Center is just down Wolf Road and around the corner on Central Ave.

Another thing I like about this hotel is that there is a 24-hour front desk attendant.

I found the staff to be very helpful and courteous.

My rating for this experience is 3.50.

Skip this one, in spite of their location close to the interstate, shopping, and colleges, and their recent renovations. Too bad. There are MANY other options, in all price ranges. On a good day, you hear people in the hall, and footsteps in the room above you. Otherwise, you hear doors slam, kids running up the halls, jumping off the beds, etc, at all hours of the night. And the mattress was thin and lumpy. I had black on the soles of my feet after my shower from walking in my room. I guess it wasn't mopped in awhile. The bathroom counter was small, there was no conditioner, and no eggs or other protein at breakfast. Also, during my first visit in May 2019, another guest was almost robbed after being set up by a fake match.com encounter, and police were called in. I'm not into all that drama. I say at hotels nearby once monthly to visit my daughter. I need to rest overnight due to health issues before traveling home. I mentioned it to the night clerk, but was not offered another room, or a discount, or anything. Being kept up all night, because the hotel couldn't put down carpeting to absorb sounds or because of inconsiderate guests, though the latter not the hotel's fault, does not make me "sensitive" and a solitary complainer, when I am cranky from lack of sleep, which is what the check out clerk insinuated when I told her. I paid for a hotel room to be well rested for my drive the next morning, and I didn't get it. I will not be returning here. Learn from my lesson. Also notice that the management here mostly only replies to stellar reviews on TripAdvisor, but doesn't bother acknowledging unhappy customers, which would be the more professional thing to do, in order to make improvements for a more positive stay in the future, and to maintain goodwill to try to keep customers. Stay away! It's worth paying more for a better hotel, who also give rewards and occasional free nights, and much better breakfasts so you don't need to stop off when your sugar drops. I'd rather give my money where they appreciate my business and treat me well.

This place could not have been worse Beginning with the attitude of the front desk it was a disaster. After unpleasant check in where the lady was seemingly insulted by our first floor request we made our way to the room.
Door was stuck and my wife couldn't open it. I finally opened the door and the smell was bad. We should have left but it was late I wasn't feeling well( bad knee)
Bed felt springy like it cost $50 Sheets were old and had an odor.
There were dead bugs along the base boards and we found a cockroach being eaten by ants
Plumbing was so bad that my wife felt like she was going to pull it out of the wall just to take a shower
Wyndham should be ashamed

Room tip: find another hotel

My standards are not that high that I would be stretching it to call this place a dump. The entire motel smells and needs a good scrubbing top to bottom. We booked a one bedroom queen suite with a hide a bed. After a nice meal at Cheesecake across the street we were more than a little surprised when we went top open the sofa that it was not a hide a bed but just a sofa, and extremely dirty under the pillows. The desk clerk, that also had checked us in earlier, admitted quickly that he was aware it was not a sofa bed and offered another room, but that really is not the point. Both rooms just gave me a sense of being dark, dirty and poorly maintained.
Its shocking that Wyndham is so hungry for affiliates that they would attach their brand to this property.
If you are looking for accommodations on Wolf Road, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, anywhere, just not here

I stayed at this Travelodge before in October 2015 and had a good experience, so when I was returning to the area, I booked a room here again.

This stay was not as good as the previous one.

The lobby area was very nice with seating in front of a wall-mounted flat-screen HDTV ~ just as a I remembered it.
.
On arrival, I was checked in right away and assigned to Room 115, a king bed deluxe room.

When I got to Room 115, the key worked in that the green light on the door lock lit up; but, when I turned the handle, the door stayed locked. I repeated the process trying the handle in up and down positions. Neither worked. I went back to the front desk. The deskwoman came back to my room with an override key and was able to open the door. She examined the regular lock and the deadbolt. She determined that the deadbolt was locking itself.

There was no handyman on the premises after 5:00 PM. And, all other first floor rooms were occupied. She said she was unable to change my room.

So, every time I came and went, I had to be let in by the person on the desk. It got old fast for both of us.

There were other problems.
2. The crescent-shaped electric fixture above the half mirror in the room’s hallway was crooked. Was it loose and ready to fall off the wall? I wasn’t touching it to test it.
3. The entire toilet rocked back and forth from front to back. It would throw me off balance sitting and getting up. Again, Maintenance would not be back until morning.
4. There was no alarm clock in the room nor could one be found. The room was supposed to have one.
5. The room temperature was supposedly able to be adjusted individually at the wall thermostat. Mine wasn’t. I had choices of on or off for preset heat and cooling settings. I wound up shutting the whole thing off and leaving the room for the Business Center with a computer and printer in the lobby for three hours until the room cooled off more by itself.

Despite my reservation’s Special Requests section containing my Wyndham Rewards status, the fact that I was a TripAdvisor reviewer, and the fact that I was previous guest at this hotel, this was the “quality” level room I was assigned.

It was all adding up to a miserable stay.

But, the biggest advantage of this hotel is location. It is diagonally across Wolf Road from the driveway to the Colinie Center, one Albany’s premier shopping malls and close to numerous restaurants from fast food to upscale dining. And, the Northway Shopping Center is just down Wolf Road and around the corner on Central Ave.

I did like the new hardwood flooring.

Other room features included a sofa that converted to a bed, sitting area, a mini-refrigerator, a microwave, hair dryer, bathroom amenities, desk, iron, and ironing board.

As with every Wyndham hotel I’ve stayed at, there was free high-speed Wi-Fi.

The hotel also had a fitness center and a laundry facility. The fitness center had a couple of treadmills, a stationary bicycle, and an elliptical stepper. There was gentleman who was in there for about two hours on the treadmill.

Room lighting was adequate. Despite being crooked, the hallway light worked. There were bedside table lamps on each nightstand.
There were plenty of electrical outlets. There was an outlet next to the bed with one available socket. There was an outlet with two sockets available beside the desk. There was one available socket where the A/C was plugged in.

The room had a larger-format Insignia brand flat-screen HDTV. My guess was that it was 40” or maybe even 43”.

The mattress in this room was not as comfortable as the one I slept on the last time because I did wake up with something of a low backache. The mattress was not as cushy as the other one.

The bathroom amenities were laid out very meticulously on the rim of the tub and on the counter. Someone in Housekeeping had very high standards.

The breakfast area was a good size with seating at tables and chairs.

The free Travelodge Bear Bites continental breakfast was good. The main feature was the Carbon's Golden Malted Gourmet Waffle Baker for make-your-own waffles. Other offerings included oatmeal, Cheerios, bran flakes, apples, bananas, English muffins, and breads for toasting. Beverages included juices, regular and decaf Coast to Coast Coffee from Canada, and Bromley Tea from New Jersey. There was no caffeine-free herbal tea.

Although the staff was very helpful, the problems with the room detracted from my enjoyment of staying here. Therefore, my rating of Travelodge Inn & Suites Albany is barely a 3.0, but I’m really tempted to rate it a 2.5. Enough said.

Room tip: I recommend waiting until all renovations are completed because routine maintenance is falling by the wayside during the updating process.
