if you are in ubud you HAVE to go to the sacred monkey forest just please follow all directions
do not make any fast movement and do not look them directly on the eyes (to avoid attacks)
do not enter with watter bottles and or food they do open bags and get them

they dint attacked me and I did take very good pictures, it´s once in a life time opportunity to get to see them on their natural habitat and just interaction among them

would love to go back

First of all these are wild monkeys in a population of hundreds. Expect them to act based on instinct. Second, they are aware that the forest is their territory. They are brazen. Lastly, you are on your own. Guards are practically useless.

I went there with my wife and two kids(4 and 1). We followed all rules and guidelines. Food, eye contact, neutral colors, etc. My wife was tending to my daughter in the amphitheater and a monkey goes near her and snatches her pearl earrings of her ear thinking this is food. Commotion ensues as it continues to threaten my wife. Lo and behold, no guard in the area and no one comes to take control. Take note the amphitheater is one of the most populated areas. My wife was scratched by the monkey.

It was only through the kindness of strangers, my fellow tourists that things calmed down and the pearl earring was retrieved.

We immediately headed out as my 4 year was in shock as she witnessed her mom being attacked by a monkey.

In the entrance, there was another tourist who was bitten by the monkey. Apparently we were still lucky with our experience.

Parents don’t risk it. It’s fun but not when you or your family is at risk.

Its around 2 kms from Central Ubud. There is a free shuttle service from Central Ubud so dont fall prey to private taxis quoting exorbitant prices. Max return price for 2 hrs is around 70-80K IDR. There are monkeys all around & if you have some food they will chase you around. You can ask the security to allow you to feed them. They may also sit on you if you wish so. If you leave them alone, they may not bother unless you have food on you. Nice place for a couple of hours. Entry is 50K IDR.
