There is a massive choice of really good restaurants in Ubud and we went to Ibu Rai because it got so many good reviews. The location is lovely and service was fine. The main issue for us was that in contrast to the meals we had at other restaurants, the food was rather bland. In the end, I think some of the cooking tries to be a bit over sophisticated with the effect that no specific tastes stand out.

The place looks very crowded most of the time, but there is a peaceful garden side that has this relaxed atmosphere with the good music and perfect food, whether it is local (Indonisian) or any Asian cuisin you choose. I never choose the European in Bali, because you want some good European food - go to Europe, therefore I don't know if the European is good there. Anyways the food is served perfectly, the portions are big and the quality is good, the taste is amazing!!!! Ibu Rai is very Indonision as it is named after the lady who started its small kitchen down there and she fed half of Ubud. It is a very family place, it is own by Ibu Rai's family, you can see many imiges of the whole family within the restaurant. Anyways i think it is must go restaurant in Ubud

Extremely friendly staff; perfect location to eat, also in the garden. Very fair prices for outstanding dishes. The service is top (they even made a phone call for us). We definitely come back.

We visited Ibu Rai restaurant after a suggestion from our hotel. Would have expected more: food was mediocre, sercice was good, environment not something special and prices could have been better. Very touristic place. Would never go there again, as this is not the kind of place we look for in our trips.

Our family with 3 adults and 2 children stopped in here to eat dinner. One of the adults commented on the nice lighting and the ambience. Fortunately we went there just before 6:00 as we were going to the Legong dance at the palace, and by 6:30 more and more people were coming to the restaurant. They started using another area to the left side also. There was quite a crew of servers, so we found we were served relatively quickly and well. One of the children ordered fish and chips, which surprised us, but he enjoyed it. Another child had spaghetti and they accommodated very well by putting the sauce in a bowl instead of over the noodles, which is just what the child wanted. She agreed that the sauce was good, which is quite an accomplishment as she is a very picky eater; we all tasted it and it was good. One person had the laksa which had noodles; we expected a little more soup as we have had at other places. Another person had the Bumbo blackened fish and that was quite good, though the rice was a bit dry and there could have been a bit more vegetable. The fruit juices were good, though the glasses could have been bigger for the price. Overall the food was good with quite a variety of choices - both western and asian.
