We booked this hotel as a last resort, as all of the other budget hotels in the Legian/Kuta area were full, due to it being peak season.
It was listed on the STA travel website, and as we've used them a number of times to book hotels, expected it to be of a reasonable standard. It is a budget hotel, so we weren't expecting it to be the Hilton – just clean and basic.
Unfortunately, that was far from the case. The reception area was ok, if a little bit old. The room however was something else!
We were shown to our room by a member of staff, and the first thing he did was flush the toilet in the bathroom. God knows what treats had been left in there!
The bathroom itself was vile, with dirt and mould up the wall and some unidentified gunk festering in the sink - it clearly hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived.
The wall facing us as we walked in was covered top to bottom in mould, and the floors were dirty.
All of the electrical fittings were exposed with wires everywhere, and the main light in the room was flashing on and off, creating a strobe effect. When we asked for it to be fixed the member of staff just told us to keep it switched off, which I guess solved the problem, in a way. There were no towels in the room, and when we asked for some they were damp.
When we were about to leave to find another hotel my girlfriend said, “well at least there aren’t any cockroaches”. As I picked up my bag, though, one of the little critters went scurrying across the floor. That was definitely the icing on the cake.
As we checked out, having only checked in 15 minutes earlier, we explained why were leaving. The receptionist did not seem surprised.
We’ve complained to STA and asked them to remove the hotel from their website, however if you are in a position where you’re considering this hotel, DON’T!
Spend the extra money and go somewhere else, it’ll definitely be worth it.
