It is about 33 kilometres from Almora on Almora-Barechina Road (16kms) and further 17 kms from there. It's a place of religious interest, it may also be of liking to those interested in old temple structures. The rates for religious services are fixed. Pujaris are friendly and cooperative. The best place to stay is kmvn TRH, situated very close to the temple. A beautiful valley surrounded with tall Devdar trees are enough enticement for nature lovers. The place is said to have been discovered by Aadi Shankar on his way to Kailash, and he encouraged the King to build a temple there. There are many temple within the present premises, most visited is Mritunjay Mahadev, Jageshwar and Mahishasurmardini, a very beautiful statute, worshiped in the form of Goddess Lakshmi. I visited second time this year on 5th of June, and returned with a feeling of coming back again. Must visit Chitai Golu Devta, temple on the way 17 kms from jageshwar and 16 kms from Almora.

Nestled among the tall Deodar trees, Jageshwar Dham about an hour's drive from Almora is a beautiful complex of temples. Its construction dates back to 12th century and the architecture takes you in the esoteric and mystic domain of Shiva. There are many temples each of them dedicated to a diety, but the main one is where the Shiva linga is housed.

The Pujaris (local Priests) will insist on a puja(service) and demand money. So play on only if you would want to. This begins with they applying tika on your forehead and chanting mantras. If you tip them they will be very happy. Not tipping might invoke a frown.

The approach to the temple is congested and narrow and during the Shravan months and Mahashivratri days the temple sees many devotees. Avoid those days.

Shiva Temples in a small one acre complex. Just the mystery of old temples. Very Basic food and parking available. Try to attend the evening Aarti at 7 pm. You can drive back to Almora which is 1 hour drive or stay at Jageshwar only.Read my other review on Jageshwar hotel where I stayed. Its an absolutely cut off place from the rest of world and very serene and very peaceful.

Try to visit Vridh jageshwar ( old Shiva) temple cluster as well. It will be a great one day spent at Jageshwar and you must carry a camera to click some exotic birds all over .

Would you like to see the ancient temple located in Uttarakhand. This place is 4 hours away from Nainital.

There are a few small hotels in the area and a few dhabas serving scrummy aloo puri or puri chole.

Temple is beautifully built and is worth visiting. Moreover, the nature around the temple make it more beautiful.

One of my best trips..
