Our experience at the Outback Hotel was very disappointing, especially because the place has potential to be incredible! The setting was so beautiful and the Staff Yogi and his wife were very welcoming and lovely....that's where the positives end! The advertising of this place sets you up for disappointment. It states it has facilities which don't exist...for example, that they accept Visa and Mastercard and have internet and wifi facilities, which is a lie! We were expected to pay in cash (which we we didn't have much of because we were expecting to pay by card). We couldn't book and pay for any tours for example horse riding or village tour, because the payment facilities weren't available...which was very disappointing. We had to use all the cash we had to pay for the room, so then we couldn't pay for dinner or drinks. We had originally booked for 2 nights but decided to stay just for one because of this. There was no phone reception/internet
, so we couldn't let our relatives back home know that we had arrived safely as we had promised. At best it is a quaint Air B N B facility and should not be advertised as a hotel. There is certainly no Kava ceremonies, music or cultural entertainment and the restaraunt is just a home cooked meal, we didn't even see a menu. The Kayaks were full of dirt and the balcony was very unstable with loose floor boards which felt very unsafe to walk on. It is extremely difficult to find and get to and some of the taxis from Ba town won't take you because of the gravel roads. There was no breakfast offered to us as advertised and no air-conditioning. And the worst part is, I have now been billed (3 weeks later) for the 2 nights, despite paying cash for the night we stayed without any notification from the Hotel. Very disappointing and definitely wouldn't recommend it unless they advertise honestly and do the place up.

The hotel could be really nice because it has a beautiful setting but the hotel rooms let it down. I booked and paid for three nights but only stayed for one because the room i booked (so called Deluxe) was insect infested. I noticed it when i went to sleep. I felt them crawling on my sheets, my skin and even in my hair. At 3am i went to find staff and was put in another room, the next day i was put in another bure and i inspected all the sheets - they were all dirty. They were stained and there was bits of rubbish on the sheets. The staff had not cleaned them and i am sure they had not cleaned sheets of the room i stayed in on my first night, which i know was used by someone else who had checked out.

I also felt really uncomfortable, not because i was the only one staying there, but because the staff occcupied the tv room . i would come down and see them sleeping, watching movies and generally chilling. i felt i could not use it as a result.

the wifi didn't work and there was no cell service either.

Maybe it would be different if there were more staff there - staff who cleaned rooms and could organise trips.

This is a great place for a very different type of experience in Fiji. As the name of the hotel suggests, it offers an outback or a highlands experience.

The scenic beauty of the place is stunning. We use google maps to find this place and then when we actually reached the hotel premises, there was no connectivity, zero internet.

The rooms are nice and customer service great. The food cooked in the outdoor open fire was brilliant and delicious. A word of caution, please come with your mosquitoe protection.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning with our children.

30 min drive on unsealed road was worth it. The Hotel is a renovated Cane farmhouse, we were greeted warmly, by ''Yogi" and made a late lunch. Dinner was delicious curries. The setting is beautiful with just a short stroll to the river. The Bures were clean but the beds are on the hard side and if you want hot water you are out of luck. Even with that if you want to experience another side of Fiji give it ago.

Stayed here with the Fij Rucksack club, in the dorm - which has the best views across the river to the hills on the other side. Crossing the river, hiking up the hill to the awesome views at the craggy crown, swimming in the Ba River and enjoying a barbecue fish lunch on the banks, horse riding, playing pool, kayaking up the river through the small but beautiful and very serene gorges - all made for a fabulous weekend, made possible by the wonderful staff. Thanks Outback!

Room tip: Bures are private and located in the garden. Dorm upstairs, with best view, is a winner if few occupants.
