cute property with some challenges

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Jul 2021
We stayed in one of the quad rooms for three nights and while there are so many things to appreciate and we'd choose this hotel again, we hope they can overcome a few challenges.

First, the good things: the hotel is just a block from the beach and boardwalk. The common spaces are great and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and laid back. The coffee and hot breakfast available were excellent, having a pool table and live music several nights that we were there was great; the big couches and little tables all over the lobby encourage hanging out. The pool area is also nice; we loved the swinging cabanas. The rooftop movie space is apparently closed for the summer due to issues with equipment and this should have been communicated prior to our stay (as even when there are movies, they're typically only shown on weekends and we stayed during the week. )

The room was as pictured, four wall mounted bunkbeds with a small seating area and separate shower, toilet, and double sink which made having four people in the room very sharable. Only one tv channel worked and only sporadically during our stay. The mini fridge would have benefited from being more incorporated into the design so that it wasn't in the middle of the room. Having a separate closet for each person with lots of wall hooks was a great idea but there should have been more thought about the need to dry swimsuits (with a clothesline, etc.) The biggest issue though and the reason that we subtracted a star is this: a note was left in the room indicating there would be no housekeeping services during our stay. Towels could be placed outside the room and you could text for replacements but that was it. An arrangement like this needs to be communicated before arrival, particularly at this price point, and things like brooms and trash disposal need to be made available for guests. We understand that everyone is emerging from Covid and understaffed but after three days, our trash was overflowing. We did ask for the floor to be swept when our towels were replaced (and we appreciated that they did sweep) but housekeeping just can't be optional.

This really is a lovely hotel in a unique historic building with so much personality; I'm sure we'll be able to give five stars down the line when these issues are resolved!

Room Tip: if the sound of live music isn't your thing, be sure to ask for rooms away from the public areas

Catbody,

I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your experience at The Asbury! Our quad room was originally designed for a hostel style experience but we realized that it makes more sense for families and friends alike! The shower and toilet in separate room allows the entire group to prepare for the day simultaneously. The Pool is my personal favorite outdoor outlet, why bother walking to the beach when you can have Frose and Shrimp tacos delivered chair side. I would like to apologize for the shortcomings you experienced with us, I wish you could have joined us for your favorite classic on Baronet. We are back up & running and hope to see you back again soon before we are closed for the season. Please reach out to me directly at sean.walsh@stayasburypark.com for your next accommodations as I would love to personally help plan your trip!

If you’re looking for a unique experience that is close to the Asbury Park Boardwalk and the Atlantic, look no further than the Asbury Hotel. It is definitely a chic industrial vibe location.

Upon arrival, parking is handled by valet so don’t be too surprised if no spots are available outside the front door. Parking is unique in this area as most spots are paid parking for the day. Don’t fret though, the hotel has you covered.

The lobby is quite unique with its open concept. The main counter is not only for check in and out, but is also where fresh food can be ordered. The menu is located on the east end above the desk which is also where the grab and go section is located. A variety of seating options are available in this area as well. They also offer some old school games (free billiards for example) to socialize around. Finally, the open concept bar definitely has ties to the music history the town offers. I’d definitely recommend either an Asbury Park distillery beer or a craft cocktail unique to the area.

Heading up to the rooms, the hallways may seem a bit narrow and dark but it’s part of the vibes of the hotel. Rooms are very simple. Mainly beds, a closet, bathroom, and some nightstand furniture. Floors are concrete and no carpet which intakes a minute to get used to, especially if you are used to chain hotels. Everything was really clean and the bathroom was in pristine condition. We traveled with a family of 8 and 3 rooms had us covered.

In short, it’s a great hotel with good amenities and a wonderful short stroll to the beach and boardwalk.

Room tip: - Keep an eye out for white cones out front as that is the valet spot (no additional signage).

    JB31787,

    JB31787,

I could not describe The Asbury better myself! We are truly a social hub that connect our guests with our wonderful community. You are bound to make a few new friends while sipping on a coffee from the counter in the morning or an Asbury No 1 from Sound Booth at night! As describe, we are the true definition of a boutique hotel and we understand that sometimes it may take a bit to acclimate from a standard box hotel but we promise you wont leave disappointed! I look forward to welcoming you back to The Asbury for your next family vacation - please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at sean.walsh@stayasburypark.com for your accommodations!

This was our fist time in Asbury Park. Me, my wife, our two boys, and dog stayed here. Overall everything was great. The room was nice and clean. There was some noise at night from the music but it didn’t bother us much.

    Michael,

Thank you for choosing The Asbury as your home base on your shore trip! I am so happy to hear your entire family had a blast with us. Being the only pet friendly hotel in the area allows you share the memories with even your four-legged friends! I also appreciate the notes on cleanliness throughout the hotel, I have shared this feedback with our housekeeping team to celebrate their victories and push them to continue to achieve excellence. I hope you were able to enjoy some time by the pool, while the kids are occupied swimming, the adults get to indulge on some tasty sips. My favorite is the Frose - cold, crisp & refreshing on a hot summer day! I look forward to welcoming you back again soon for more laughter& joy!

We stayed at the Asbury Hotel, best location 1-block from the beach and walking to restaurants and night-life. Room was modern and clean with a view. The rooftop bar has the best 360 vies especially at night. Definitely something to see and experience it is right out of a Hollywood movie!

This was our second visit to The Asbury and will not be our last. The manager Sean and his staff went above and beyond to make sure our visit was just right. The room was clean and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve been in a hotel in quite a while. A+++

Sells itself as a high end boutique hotel...not. Had better stays at an Aloft. They should visit a Kimpton Hotel in Philly to see what a quality boutique hotel is !!! Bare small rooms, they try to hard to be cool, very pretentious !

Thank you for you candid feedback as it is the only way for our team to continue to grow. We’re sorry to hear that our hotel did not live up to your expectations. We see that you stayed in our Standard King, which is one of our more basic rooms. We have ten different room types, and I believe that some of our superior rooms and suites may better suit your needs. You may also be interested in our sister hotel, Asbury Ocean Club, which is located just steps away and offers 5-star luxury accommodations for your next visit to Asbury Park. We hope to see you again!
